BT clearly have no idea how to stop overnight test calls; I am beginning to think the only way to stop these nuisance calls is to commence legal proceedings.

I'm not very technical, but can you not request that they put in a new line and port her existing number to it. If they can't get the fault removed from the old line, then I can't see any way round it.

You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. I did his on 27/11 when PADDY (also a BT Customer Service Representative, posting on this forum) asked me to respond. He later phoned me to clarify a few things. I have not heard from him since.

It was PADDY who told me that BT only do nightly tests on phone lines which also have broadband. My aunt's phone has no broadband! Strangely, the open CSS fault (from 05/11/2006) was listed on bt.com/faults as a broadband fault!

When my aunt started receiving these test calls on the 5th anniversary of this fault, this seemed quite a coincidence! Coupled with the fact that the fault from 05/11/2006 was showing as a broadband fault and nightly tests are only done on lines with broadband - I am sure you can follow my reasoning!

The matter is now being dealt with by BT Complaints Department and I will escalate the problem with them, in accordance with BT's complaints procedure. I don't wish to divert from the BT complaints procedure as that could jeopardize any complaint I wish to make to the Ombudsman Services or any civil litigation being considered.

That would be something else for BT to make a mess off and with no guarantee that it would cure the problem. It would also be a great upheaval for someone aged 87!

I guess that is a possibility.

Why should you change your number all because of BT's incompetence !

Exactly! My aunt has had the same number for at least sixty years - except for BT/Post Office, lengthening the number on two occasions!
