Popped to the Co*op on my way for a walk and got some good reductions (and noted that there's loads of stuff dated the 27th so will be returning on Boxing Day;)) - then had to sort & repack them for the freezer so that's a job not on the list.
Was totally exhausted by that point so am just up having had a snooze for the past couple of hours:o

woke up this morning feeling 'dread'! Its christmas eve and Ive been looking after a very ill mother all week and havent done much apart from shop for food! I havent got the children and their partners the little pressies I usually do! They all normally ask for money to go mad in the sales - so I get them a little pressie to open. BUT, they are adults and if they into a sulk cos they havent got a pressie then I havent raised them right! Once that was off my mind I have thrown myself into preparing and cooking what I can for the big christmas lunch tomorrow!
14 of them! in my tiny house! The food isnt a problem - its cramming the people all in - but I get this every year - and THIS year - I am going to start cooking earlier, feed the kids first (6 of them) then feed the adults, while the kids are playing with their toys - good plan or what?
tonight I am getting !!!!!! while preparing veg, pigs in blankets and anything else I can parboil, parbake etc!
oh and I am determined that I will enjoy myself tomorrow - even if it kills me! (I dont actually LIKE christmas you see)!0 -
worked all day and called in to a pub on the way home for a couple of glasses of wine with work mates - opps - as a result christmas baking has been a bit of a nightmare!! my individual pastry cases baked blind have sunk at the edges and are now just slabs of pastry (at least it is only for me!!) christmas shortbread (for mums stocking) I managed to turn the oven off half way through cooking (now resolved) i only realised when my veg was still boiling, then i went to the oven to change over shortbread top and bottom shelves and managed to put both tins one on top of the other - note to self, do not drink before baking!! now sorted i will leave wrapping it till 2morow - at least i am going round mum and dads for the day itself otherwise it would be a disaster!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

Well still a bit to do but have to say I am amazed the day went wonderfully - hubby was ready by 1.25pm so we toddled off to garden centre and bought DIL her present ( all female friends and family have the tango scarves I knitted this week but family had to have a bit more than that). Then off to theatre where we got a place easily in car park right beside it, totally amazed ( when we came out it was packed), as was only 2.05 we went and had a coffee and a bun in the cafe there, then at 2.20pm when they announced film due to start in 5 mins went down to seats. Film was of course wonderful. I unfortunately couldn't sit through the whole thing without moving, got to stiff and pain levels rose, so just when Mary was telling George he lasso a stork I toddled to the toilet and took pain meds and did a few easy movements to remove stiffness, hubby said I was only gone 5 mins and as I had a middle aisle seat ( always book that) I disturbed no one. I noticed in the stalls anyway where we were and all the boxes were packed and they had about 50 people standing right at the back, not surprised so many people wanted to see it and cannot remember what it cost but was not cheap but worth every penny. Just before the screen - which rises out of the floor in the middle of the stage ( only one in world we were told) a man played a real old fashioned cinema organ and asked us all to take our keys out and we all sang jingle bells with us all adding to the music by shaking our keys ?:)
Afterwards picked up DGD12 from daughters and DGS6 from sons and we arrived at Restaurant 5 mins early and were seated straight away. We spent a leisurely 2hrs over the meal and owner was taken with grandson and gave him an ice cream and didn't charge us for it. We were also surprised as we had budgeted £130 for the meal to be safe and it only came to £66, we couldn't work it out as the prices on the bill were cheaper for most things than on the menu, we asked if it was correct and told yes. We can only presume they must have early bird prices if you come in before 7pm, but never gone in that early before so don't know. So we had to go and fill up the car, hubby forgot yesterday so the £42 to do so feels as if it was free. All the staff seemed so taken that we were taking our grandchildren out for a meal on Christmas Eve, can't believe we are the first to do so there in all the years its been open. Food was lovely and everyone is stuffed.
We eventually got home from dropping off the children ( had a cuppa at daughters) by 10pm - a long day for me, but one I totally enjoyed.
I forgot though to take my lamb and beef out the freezer before we went out, so have now wrapped them in foil and put them on a very low heat in oven and will leave them there all night, might be to low with them still being frozen but if not cooked in morning I will up the temp. Cannot do anything else for tomorrow as no room in fridge to keep anything . So having a rest after putting lights on outside tree - just one long string of solar powered ones, hubby should have done it but he has crashed out, well he has been up since 5am. So as tree tall lights are not exactly round perfectly but at least out there. Have washing machine and tumble dryer on and still more things to wash and dry, but made living room all ready by putting on the tree lights, lit the tea-lights in their Christmas holders and some candles ( including Yankee Christmas eve ones)
So to my list
[STRIKE]Have a cuppa
Take Meds
Get out of bed
Let Dogs out
Put throws from living room into washer
Put said throws into dryer
Put cushions from living room into washer
put said cushions into dryer
put rugs into washer
put rugs into dryer
strip beds
put bedding into washer
put bedding into dryer
Shower
Do nails
Get ready for going out
Nag hubby to get ready
Go and buy DIL her present - going to garden centre they are expensive but they do the most wonderful gifts ( maybe they will have started their sale fingers crossed)
Head straight for theatre
Have a drink and maybe lunch if enough time
Watch its a Wonderful Life
Have a good cry
Collect Car
Go and pick up DGD12 then DGS6
Go to Restaurant with them
Eat, Drink and be merry
Take them home
Come back home[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Lamb out of freezer to defrost[/STRIKE] - straight from freezer to oven
Make a quick Christmas cake - do tomorrow as plenty to eat
Wrap DIL present ( others thankfully done, opps forgot one of daughters to do as well)
Try and talk hubby into doing vacumning
Clean kitchen
Fit in cups of tea throughout the day
Get out wine ready to make mulled wine tomorrow
So at moment having a nice cuppa then better get present wrapped as son and daughter in law planning on coming over around 11am.
Think will just wrap the presents and call it a night, usually watch midnight mass but think I will have to give it a miss, mind over matter can only keep keep me going for so long.
Hope everyone is relaxing now with everything done
