I just have to wrap the present for hubby in the garage that's too big to move so he'll have to unwrap it there too & then head to my parents for Xmas Eve dinner with our little one.

We did loads yesterday & my back has given out today so glad we've got it all done!

I never seem to do what could possibly be left until the very last minute. My lift arrives in just under two hours and, apart from Mass, all need done now. Fortunately, I'm spending Christmas with some family members and have friends coming over on Boxing Day. I'm working my way through a list that includes:

    • [STRIKE] Making some chocolate bark to put in with gifts[/STRIKE] (currently setting)
    • Deliver some truffles to eldery neighbours
    • [STRIKE]Washing up [/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Do a quick de-clutter[/STRIKE]
    • Clean kitchen
    • Clean bathroom
    • Mop floors
    • [STRIKE]Hoovering[/STRIKE]
    • Overnight bag packed
    • [STRIKE]My contributions to festivities - soup, chilli jam, truffles, Christmas cake.[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Wine bought[/STRIKE]
    • Wrap presents
    • Last-minute Amazon vouchers to a couple of people I forgot. Oops.
    • [STRIKE]Charge phone and kindle[/STRIKE]
    • Shower and change
    • Wash towels
    • [STRIKE]Some prep for boxing day - in freezer[/STRIKE]
    • Do nails
    • Set table for Boxing Day
    • Go to Midnight Mass

Had a quiet day, as planned. Just strolled to Mr A and got a few reductions, luxury xmas pud 70p. mince pies 30p and some veg and chestnuts 10p a pack. Just going to look up how to make marron glaces so they last and can be used in cakes.

Going to dd's in a little while to sneak toybox in that OH made so theres no fuss tomorrow. Having salad an boiled eggs for tea as thats all we feel like.

Got a couple of presents to wrap later, done most of them. Am concentrating on looking after OH as he is very weak and watery today.
Clearing the junk to travel light
    Saving every single penny.
    I will get my caravan
  • dh had day surgery 48 hours ago and is recovering so no family here this year and I must say that it is BLISS. First time alone as a couple after 40 years of running around organising everything or helping and I am so grateful not to feel shattered, as is dh. Nice, simple food, some treats, some reading, tv, radio. Oh heaven

Washing done and airing today, beds made, soup ready for evening meal. Wood pellet stove cooling down now after running to empty and I will give it a good clean later and then refill the hopper to full. Sales shop on the internet with feet up, oh I am enjoying myself

Was dragged from my pit at an ungodly hour (just after 6 am) by a mother who wanted to get the drop on the day.

8 am found several lost presents and hastily-wrapped them. Dad is going to fetch his Mum (Nan) and to give his Sis and BIL their gifts.

8.45am on the road to town to pick up the last bits and bobs plus the salad stuff we shall be scoffing shortly.

9am brother deplyed to supermarket in opposite direction to buy ham because someone forgot to defrost the gammon.

9is-10ish scour small town for candied orange and lemon slices (no success) but manage to visit several charity shops accidentally as I went past and now have a lovely as-new book for next year's Xmas present pile and a SIEVE.

10.30 am. Home. Have a gallon of tea and a mince pie. Mum had done all the floors and looks wan. Make her siddown and rest.

11.00 Try to establish order in sitting room by hiding various items under tablecloths.

11.15 Dad returns with Nan. Boxes, bags everywhere.

11.30-12.00 Assemble tree and decorate under amused direction of Nan from the reclining armchair. Chaos ensues with tinsel toppings. Cats are in hiding.

12.30 pm Light lunch for 5 followed by a h.m cherry pie which has mysteriously heamoragged juice. Three grown women with over a hundred years' baking experience between them frown and express incredulity. Two grown men with zero baking skills get on with eating it.

13.00 Try to start washing up and am herded from the kitchen by Mum and Dad as they prefer to do it themselves.

13.30. Dishes done so we have a cuppa and make some more. Nan snoozes intermittantly all afternoon (it's allowed she's 88)

16.00 Am in a room with several sleeping or reading people so feel justified in sneaking off to spare bedroom to play on MSE. Sleepers prompty wake and some start preparing tea. Feel guilty.

Have taken the Tightness Test and am only 53% tight- am gutted to be such a failure.............:rotfl:

Rest of the evening will involve eating and drinking and maybe some board games and telly watching..........plus we've just found a missing smoke alarm in a cupboard whilst looking for the sprinkles to put on top of the home made chocolate cake which was done on Thursday but minus it's filling and topping til just now.

:o Waht can I say- I come from chaos and one day I will return to chaos, but I suppose I better go downstairs or I'll get more gibes about my internet addiction...........:p
