Orange unlock codes

I've bought an iphone that has been locked to the orange network.
The iphone was second hand and had been owned for about 6 months.
I can't Jailbreak & unlock the phone because it's on BB 05.16.05. My only option is to downgrade it to the Ipad 05.16.00 BB. But in doing this i lose the GPS and will never be able to install official apple updates or "un cooked" updates again. Not really an option.
So i call orange. I'm happy to pay the unlocking fee of around £20 but they tell me i've got to wait 3 months and if i don't have an orange sim card i need to obtain one and put it in the phone then use it for 3 months.
Surely this shouldn't be the case. Is there no way that i can request my code, it's been on the orange network for 6 months. It would have been on it for longer but it was replaced by apple because it was broken.
Is there anything i can say so i don't have to wait the 3month period?

As I see it you have two options:
1 Ask the person you bought it from to have it unlocked, give them the twenty pounds.
2 Ask Orange, nicely, if they will make an exception to their policy for you. Bearing in mind you aren't an Orange customer.
It doesn't seem unreasonable, to me, for Orange to only provide an unlock for one of their customers. I sort of understand that you bought it, but it would have been prudent to check the unlocking position beforehand.0 -
The Orange system can't requested an unlock unless you're an Orange customer. The request is linked to the acc (be it payg or pm).
So if you want an official unlock you're going to have to do what they say.0 -
I went through this with them, thought I'd got somewhere as they agreed to unlock to a PayG SIM but then found I'd been lied to.
Their Indian call center is useless, with the staff giving out wrong names and extensions so you can never follow up.
In the end, I have another 4 weeks to go on the PayG SIM to reach 3 months and then I will unlock it.

Hi, www.fonefunshop.co.uk will permanently unlock it for £65, seems like a lot but you don't have to worry about it relocking with upgrades etc. This is unlocked in the Apple database.
I have used them several times for various makes and found their service fast and efficient. Although these have usually cost in the region of £30.0
