Royal mail redirections problem

I have purchased a Royal Mail Redirection service online for £17.62 on the 20th December as I was planning to move houses next week. However my supposed to be landlord has pulled out of the agreement after it.
I have therefore rang up Royal mail to cancel it. Hopefully with getting my money back as per distant selling regulations. The person on the phone has told me that there is actually no redirection order registered despite me quoting the reference number from the confirmation email I have received from them. My credit card has also been debited by £17.62 on the 20th. They however keep telling me as I've rang them up 3 times now that they can see no order details on their system.
I am not that worried about £17.62 though it would be nice to get it back but mainly about my mail such as bank statements as I am terrified to think of my personal details ending up at that idiot's landlord's that has dumped me place. I fear that my order is just hanging somewhere and could still come through at any time. I have asked for it to be treated as a formal complaint however I was told that for a complaint I willhave to send them the letter with it and it will take them 30 to resolve it. Potentially by that time loads of my post will go to the wrong place. Could any one give me any advice on this situation? Requesting a chargeback from a credit card provider, possibly ?

Go to your local sorting office with ID and speak to the Manager and explain what has happened and ask him to ensure that the redirection does not happen. Also have a word directly with your postie.0

relax
you seem to have created a storm out of a very small tea cup.
contact your delivery office before the redirection is meant to go live
take ID with you
explain the situation
ask them to cancel the rediretion
they may have to hold your mail until it has been confirmed0 -

You seem to have missed the bit where the OP has stated that they have already contacted RM 3 times in an attempt to cancel the redirection.
Not everyone would have the time to visit the delivery office in person, which is why RM also have a telephone contact system.0 -

Ops likely contacted head office. I'm sure ops local depot will have a direct line0 -

Quite possibly, but surely they should have then been told to contact their local office, and I would have thought that the head office should still have been able to access the redirection details on the computer system.
It appears that they were clearly told that there was no redirection in place.0 -

Yes but evidently head office have been useless & can't find ops order and the complants process will take upto 30 days to get a response. So telephoning the local depot whom will be managing the redirection order seems to be the next logical step to take.0 -
My main concern is with it being a festive period, there would be no one in local Royal Mail0
