We moved into a brand new house with a porch, which was only about 4x5 ft on the front to seperate the living room from the front door. This was the actual design of the house and we did fall in love with the rest of the house and thought we could live with the lack of an entrance hall.We lasted a couple of years before we found it unbearable. We don't have kids at home now but it was things like wet coats and dirty shoes and bringing in shopping which had to be trudged through the living room.I found even with 2 adults we were forver having to clean the floor.
We have now moved to house with a hallway and its heaven,it feels like we have room to move. All I would say to you is consider things long term it may be ok now but what about when the novelty of the new house wears off.If you do build a porch make sure its roomy enough.

thanks for all the feedback, what you have said is omething that would worry me, I think it would niggle me in the future. I just cant believe a developer would put a large modern house like this with a door that leads straight onto the the lounge, I appreciate it wouldnt bother some, but the fact that the side of the house is on a main road aswell is starting to put me off.

plus we still havent sold ours, had another viewer today and one yesterday but our house is at the top of the price bracket for a three bed house in essex and you could get a four bed house for a little more, we are in a lovely close which you have to take into account that the new houses one estates are all overlooked around here, but maybe mre people are concerned about having four beds rather than the three in that price range. ours is up for 303k
Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!
