  • Are you SERIOUS???? Vodafone and sorting ANYTHING out are incompatible; they create problems, not solve them. Try looking on here for the MASSES of complaints and problems with Vodafone and anything you can find about Giffgaff pales into insignificance...
  • Never had any issues porting my number over, and I have always had quick responses when needing to speak to an agent (albeit only once or twice because I have never really had any problems) I quite like them.

It's unfortunate you're having issues with them, I am sure a few people have and will...but show me a network that doesn't screw up sometimes.

ruthnjasper-I am not having a go at Martin but would advise the public with the simple line that there is no human support. Online only and therefore take longer to resolve. Adding that line would suffice.

Sanpat - ah, OK, thanks for the clarification. It's a fair point.

    Merry Christmas! x

I have signal but cannot call out and more importantly nobody can call in-dead line.

Possibly the local cell site is overloaded for the network you're on. Each site only has so many radio channels so if there isn't a free one when you need to make or receive a call you get nothing or end up talking to yourself.

I had that experience on Orange and wife does on Tesco which also means O2 users are in my area too.
  • The giffgaff forums are specifically set up to capture problems and so perfectly understandable that problems are what you find when you look through them. Not many take the time to post a comment if all has gone well.

No denying that the op has had a bad experience. Unfortunately the number port took place at a time when giffgaff admits its website capacity and online agents capacity were insufficient due to unforeseen sudden growth in members. The chief exec posted on the blog to apologise and highlighted the steps (recruitment of new agents, investment in website capacity, delay in launch of blackberry services) to address them.

In my time on giffgaff I have consistently seen them hold their hands up when things go wrong and compensate the affected. Not a perfect network by any means and November/December really bad if things went wrong. Still wouldn't go anywhere else and have faith that the recent performance issues will soon be rectified.

I switched from Giffgaff to O2 simply because of a good deal over 12 months but had delays in my number being ported over (i.e. in the opposite direction).

Giffgaff provided me with a pac number very quickly but O2 took about 5 days to get it operational.

I've seen other postings about porting delays between O2 and Giffgaff (in both directions) and my belief is that the problem lies with the fact that they both use the same network (O2). I may be totally wrong but, if so, why is it that networks say you can't keep your number if you want to change contracts but stay with them.

Many people wanting to take on a new contract get recommended to switch to someone like giffgaff for a month or so then switch back to the same network offering a good deal (say via Quidco) as it's the only way they can retain their number. No wonder they can't cope.

I plan to return to Giffgaff when my contract expires.

I have a rooted San Francisco running Android 2.3 on GiffGaff.

Been with them over a year with no problems whatsoever except for a billing problem early on when I was overcharged. It was sorted quickly, full refund and a free £10 Goodybag for my trouble !

My phone was rooted and upgraded following instructions on GiffGaff forums took about 20 minutes, Excellent !

I do not use much internet at the moment so have scaled down to a £5 Hokey Cokey Goodybag . This gives me 60 minutes of calls plus 300 texts .

I get lots of incoming calls for which I receive a credit of 1 minute for every minute that someone calls me . Some months my free minutes exceed my paid ones .

GiffGaff rules in my opinion !
  • i hate posts like this . If martin told you to stick your head in the bin , would you .Having said that it might be a idea for some one in martins team to watch forum posts on a subject so if the company starts giving bad service they could change the reconmadtion . Primus springs to mind .

What phone are you using? It isn't an Orange San Francisco by any chance is it? See separate blacklisting thread if it is...
