Amazon Guaranteed Delivery Means Nothing

I've been an Amazon customer since they first got going, and i've got to say usually delivery isn't a problem, however I need to rant.
I pre-ordered a set of books on the 23rd November, they were due for release on the 20th Dec, so I assumed they'd be here for christmas.
I recieved an email last week saying that as they had not come in stock, they wouldn't be able to deliver them in time for christmas, it would be January.
I figured fair enough, it can't be helped if they've not got it in stock.
However, I checked yesterday, and they were for sale on Amazon, in stock, and Guaranteed for next day delivery if you ordered within a few hours.
So I rang Amazon (or they rang me) and they basically said they had already been sent out (even though in my account it was still showing as estimated dispatch beginning of Jan).
So I figured, I could order another set, plus a few other last minute christmas bits, and pay for the guaranteed delivery, to arrive today.
Then I could send one set back after christmas, because it would be too late.
Anyhow, spent a fair bit, paid for Guaranteed delivery, and have been sat in the house since, waiting...
Nothing has arrived.
Oddly enough, I recieved three emails from them last night, the first was for the first set of books, apparently they had been sent out the day before (oddly enough this was after I had rang) and they have sent them tracked Royal Mail (they were Super Saver Delivery).
The big order I put in yesterday and paid for Delivery today, still hasn't arrived, and is showing as an 'Estimated' delivery of today (23rd)
I've rang three times.
First time they put the phone down on me.
Second time the guy tried to help, muttered something about Prime delivery (I'm not a Prime customer) and that they could arrive anytime upto 10pm.
It hasn't been sent tracked.
Third time, the guy reckons they won't arrive after 5pm, and that there's nothing he can do, when asked what htey meant then by 'Guaranteed' he just shrugged into the phone.
I realise they'll all probably turn up tomorrow (christmas eve) but i've wasted a day sat in waiting, and feel pretty cheated as far as they're idea of Guaranteed is concerned, apparently it's just a sales term to get you to buy from them, once they have your cash it doesn't mean anything anymore.
Sorry for the long post, and thanks if you made it this far
It's the way they tell you a load of porkies and expect you to just take it that riles me the most.

As far as I new Amazon don't do a guaranteed next day delivery. They do a one day delivery which isn't guaranteed arms this time of year I wouldn't bank on being next day.'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

To guarantee next day delivery is reckless IMO.
But Amazon do offer it. If they don't succeed they refund delivery charge. If you order eligible items before the order deadline and choose a Guaranteed Delivery option at the checkout, we guarantee your items will arrive on or before the time or day (depending on the option chosen) advertised on the product's detail page and in the checkout process. We'll refund your delivery fee if this doesn't happen.0 -
I will never trust Amazon with anything I need in a hurry again. I pre-ordered a PS3 game because they promised delivery on launch day and I was on a free trial of Prime. They then sent it untracked ROYAL MAIL! That pretty much guaranteed it would not arrive on time. I was fuming.
Unless you're a gamer you won't understand the feeling of playing a long-awaited game on launch day.
Next time I will just go to a proper shop for anything I need on time.
Their service is great if you don't care when you get something.Don't grow up. Its a trap!
Peace, love and labradors!0 -
I would refuse to talk to anyone less than a manager. (politely ask him to check your account. Ask him if they see you as a valuable customer. Then ask why the previous three people you've talked to have treated you poorly, as well as pointing out that you've wasted a day. At the very least they should refund your delivery costs. To go the extra mile, they should give you a credit to your account.0

Amazon has always been amazing for me, I ordered a Intel i5 2500k processor at 7pm in the evening for Royal mail special delivery, the package arrived the next day at 11:50am so I cant fault there service.
OP who is the courier for this delivery? usually for Guaranteed Delivery they use Royal Mail, but they may of used Yodel which will explain the awful delay0 -
im having trouble with them as well as ordered a Game on Tuesday as that was the last day to order to get it in time for Christmas and on my account page on there website its saying Delivery Estimate 22nd Dec and its coming from Jersey so it better come today as its for my son but i fear it wont.
But why put on there website to order by a set time on a set day to get it for Christmas when they cant do it?
whos fault is it Royal mail or Amazon?0 -
I ordered a load of christmas presents on wednesday night and they were offering guaranteed one day delivery, which I took up. They sent them in 3 parcels, one arrived by normal post (untracked ), one that was sent by tracked courier I had to chase up and collect from teh delivery office because the driver 'couldn't find my office' - luckily the delivery company were helpful over this and I'm just grateful to have the parcel and a third which was also sent in normal post and didnt arrive so I had to go out last night and buy replacement presents
AMAZON - IT IS BEYOND STUPID TO OFFER GURANTEED ONE DAY DELIVERY PARTICULARLY AT THIS TIME OF YEAR AND SEND ITEMS BY NORMAL FIRST CLASS POST.
I have told them I will be returning this parcel when it finally arrives - was sent to my office and we're now closed until 3 Jan. I will also be complaining formally to them as the call centre was the usual pointless scripted affair - he just kept apologising and saying they might turn up tomorrow, which is useless as we are closed and the delivery office know we are close (never open saturdays anyway so they won't even try to deliver!). In my book, 'might' does not equal 'guaranteed'!0 -
I'm surprised there are any problems with amazon delivery tbh. I've never paid for delivery from them - always free - and always had my items the following day, one day after at the latest. I ordered the GHD's on Black Friday and they were here at 9am the next day, despite the masses of orders they must have been coping with.
I think you have to put it down to xmas post tbh - something over which they don't have much control. Even if they sent by courier, imagine the thousands of parcels whizzing around today - it must be mental. I do understand your vent though - especially if it;s a xmas present and you pay over the odds to make sure its here.0
