Shall I confess?

in Credit cards
Hi all
Basically at the beginning of December I paid some money via my online banking account to my credit card. That has come off my balance and out of my bank account. However I spotted a few days later that the same amount that I had paid had been taken off my credit card again but not out of my bank account. Now I have had my statement through and I check all my accounts on a daily basis and the 'error' has not been corrected. Shall I 'confess' to my credit card company or leave it and hope they don't realise?

Hi Swany, they WILL realise eventually. Better to be honest now than be out of pocket next month.Pants0

no, go and spend this money that is not yours as you are obviously morally corrupt to even consider keeping money that clearly does not belong to you!

I would do nothing, but make payments on the basis that this error hadn't happened. I would expect them to correct it eventually.
You COULD tell them, but I fear then there is a risk of an initial correction which is not done properly only for "another" correction to be made later on. Then it could be a hassle to get the position fixed.0 -

That would be my worry too.
I'd give it a few weeks, if they haven't spotted it then, I'd flag it. But I wouldn't call them to correct it within the first few days, it could just be a small delay - I would do as ChattyChappy said, and that is to assume this will be automatically corrected shortly.0 -
Inform the credit card company, it must be an error on there part and they will fix it in the end.0

I agree. I once had a payment credited twice by mistake to a credit card bill. I didn't do anything. They contacted me 7 months later and added back on the account.
Just leave it, act as if it hadn't happened without spending the money, and wait for them to sort it out. Trying to sort it over the phone will sadly be beyond the abilities of many call centre bods!!0 -
Put the money into a savings account and benefit from the interest until they ask for it back. If they don't ask for it back for 6 years then you should be okay to spend it.0

Reminds me of the time I drove over a traffic island. (Well.. it was in the middle of the road, what a stupid place for an island!)
I rang the council and reported it (fine). Then I offered to "pay for it". Oh they weren't set up for such an enquiry. After 20mins or so we just gave up.0 -
