Hope nothing happens to RIM now that their tablet stock seems to be getting dumped in price now.
There share price has fallen by approx 80% and there are rumours all over the net that they're in trouble. (probably due to the Blackberry fiasco a few months back)0 -
My worry with this is that it has what can be considered to be a non-standard operating system and there are far fewer apps available for it than for the Apple iPad or an Android powered device.
Plus, it doesn't have 3G which in my book is essential for portability.0 -

depends I see tablets as a 'coffee table' device, where you will use it to surf the net, watch youtube and read email infront of the TV in a casual scenario, therefore it doesn't require a 3G connection and not having thousands of apps doesn't really matter.
a mobile phone you would use to surf the net and check/send email on the go and because it has lots more frivolous apps you can use it to waste time during a commute ect.
for proper work (or even putting stuff on said tablet/mobile) that's what a proper computer is for.
the good thing about the playbook is because it has flash (which even though it is on the way out and will be replaced by HTML5) you can properly surf the internet, watch all the catchup services ect. and best of all the playbook also has HTML5 so you are set in that respect as well.
also the fact it has a less common OS (Blackberrys own instead of android or iOS) means that it should be safe from any malware as what would be the point of creating it for a less popular OS, so in the casual 'coffee table' environment you can surf away safe in the knowladge that you can't pick up a virus (but you still have to look out for phishing (dodgy websites that want your login details/bank accounts ect.))0 -
Thanks OP - posting this from my new Playbook. First impressions very positive0

My GF loved her Blackberry Torch before she dropped it in the bath. She now has an iPhone 4, as do i, and i have an iPad2.
Her dad just bought an iPad 2.
Before all this she really really wanted a Playbook. This is my opportunity to give her, her own tablet.
What kind of apps are available? Will there be games for her to remain amused as well as the usual internet browsing she can do?0 -

Looks like a great bargin. My friend works in Currys/ PC World and said there is loads of stock left especially in Currys Warrington.
I would advise doing a 'Click and Collect' for tomorrow before they all sell out.0 -
:T:T:TBought one today for my DS after seeing this, he will be over the moon thanks OP, really pleased with the price0

First impressions are that the app store is quite limited, at least if you're used to Apple. There look to be a few regulars (including Angry Birds) but not a massive amount. Saying that, i've not spent a lot of time searching so may have missed lots.
For sitting on the sofa/in bed browsing the web, facebook, twitter, email and the like it's very nice - responsive with an intuitive user interface and no problems yet having lots of tabs open. That was my main reason for buying, so i'm pleased with it.0 -
indeed, try & reserve first.
Walked into Slough and bought 1 of the 2 remaining for sale last night
- whereas there were 32 reserved :eek:0
