Council Tax - Non Dependant

I moved back in with my parents last year (they are pensioners) they get IS, HB, & CTB.
My dad got a letter last month stating he did not declare me living with them (non dependant) so they want to interview him. I work full time. I don't interfere with my parents finances/mail etc.
I am on the electoral role and on the yearly demand letter. On interview when my dad told then this, they stated 'but you did not tell benefits'.
Now they have asked him about my history of addresses which he has given.
What happens next? Will they check those addresses and how etc.
Thanks.

Your dad should have declared you living in his house, his HB and CTB (as you have guessed) is affected by you living there. The council will need to know when you moved in so they can apply a deduction to both HB and CTB if you work over 16 hours a week.
As far as I am aware the first 26 weeks you live in the property of a pensioner is ignored then after that a deduction will apply. The deduction that then applies depends on your income.0 -

Do you mean that you don't contribute financially to the household?0 -

Deductions will be made from their council tax benefit to reflect the fact that you live there, which means they could be getting a big bill, unless either of them is on the care component of disability living allowance. If either of them is, then they need to tell the authority. If neither of them is, then they will have to pay up.0 -
And the bill could be the entire CTB and HB they've received for the period the council decide you have been living there due to the claim being classed as fraudulent as they didn't notify a change of circumstances as they are required to.0

No I don't contribute financially.
Thanks guys for your posts. I don't understand why they asked my dad for all my previous addresses since he's been claiming CTB. I moved back in Sept 2010.0 -
will it affect their IS too?0

why not?
they obviously want to know if youve been paying council tax at your previous addresses and when that ended.

This won't happen. The amount of non dependant deduction depends on your earnings with the max being £8.60 pw. However you are disregarded if one of them is registered blind or in receipt of Attendance Allowance or the care component of DLA.As far as I am aware the first 26 weeks you live in the property of a pensioner is ignored then after that a deduction will apply. If they're over 65I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0 -

It might be £8.60 deduction for council tax but the deduction for housing benefit is a maximum of £60.60 ,it all depends on the non dependants earnings.0
