My renewal is due soon.
Been looking about and sainsburys car insurance is substantialy cheaper than my current provider.
Are they a good insurer?

Some years ago now but a friend had to make a claim through them (someone else went through a red light and hit into his car). They were useless and he'll never insure with them again.
But, that being said, every single insurer will have people with horror stories.0 -
We had to make a claim, they were ok with ours.
Insurance was provided by Esure then though, I think they have changed since then.0 -
For £58 more Zurich are my next cheapest option.
Any views on them?
Better than Sainsburys?0 -
They're well known in the Insurance sector, some say good things others say bad.. hard to get an overall perspective of a company as most people come online to complain rather than praise! The levels of cover they offer seem pretty decent. At least your not going with an unknown company.0

If its RBS should be ok then.
No they are sh*t to deal with if you ever have to claim.
I use to be insured with them, and while one of their brands always came up for me as the cheapest insurer in all the comparison sites I spent extra not to be insured by them.
Which have a list of insurers rated on customer satisfaction and policy terms here. While it doesn't include everyone if you look at who is behind the brand it may give an idea as they seem to use the same customer service operators etc. This you will discover when they send you letters under the wrong brand name but with all the correct details.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

If you never need to contact the insurer then you tend to find their customer service fine/very good particularly if they send renewals out in good time and don't auto-renew if you don't want them to.
You only tend to have issues with insurers if you:
1. Ever have to claim, or,
2. They put incorrect details on your policy even though you know you gave them the correct details and can prove you did, and they are being difficult with correcting them, or,
3. They don't explain charges and other costs to you when you have to amend your policy, or,
4. You change car, they refuse to insure you and don't explain why, or,
5. Their customer service goes back on their word.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
