I once bought a £15 lamp for a tenner, by pretending to only have a tenner on me. I thought the price was too high and so thought id give it a go. Chap in the shop was a bit reluctant but still sold it to me. And i once bought a telly for £400, against a sticker price of £699, just by saying that £400 was my limit. The shop was not part of a chain, and these are usually run by people more inclined to haggle. Just remember, it costs nothing to ask.

Sometimes you get someone who, as soon as you haggle out of custom looks at you as if you've done something deeply wrong! Or they laugh, or whatever. I guess they just don't know who to argue back the cost, seeing it as a you verses me situation instead of win-win. Don't let this put you off, take your time and smile inside.
Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker
  • when we were on honeymoon, we went into the local town for drinks and a friend who was with us haggled over 5 coca-colas and a cup of tea. Thing was the 6 drinks came to a total of well under £1 anyway!

You took a friend on honeymoon? Separate rooms, I hope.
Exclamation and question marks - ONE exclamation mark or question mark is sufficient to exclaim or ask about something. More than one just makes you look/sound like a prat.
    Should OF, would OF
. Dear oh dear. You really should have, or should've listened at school when that nice English teacher was explaining how words get abbreviated.

Buying a new car. Managed to get a large amount off the marked price (Cant remember exactly how much). When it came to the paperwork, I haggled for a full tank of petrol and a “tree air-freshener”. I got the full tank of petrol, but I only got a hippo air-freshener instead of the tree one
  • When haggling over the price for the self-drive 7,5tonner for moving house, I managed to get £100 off the price (down to £235) and thought I'd push a little further so said I'd take it for £230 or £235 if they threw in a Yorkie bar.....

I got the Yorkie bar ;) (OH was not amused - I didn't get 2 lol)
There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't

In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice

When in Egypt I succesfully haggled a set of knopic (Sp?) jars down from £180 (over-inflated tourist price) to £11:j. Course, Knopic jars are intended for when you're dead so I could have just left them for my nearest & dearest to pay for after I pop off, in the unlikey event that they want to store my brains, kidnesy, intestines seperately:D
