Metropolitan and strathclyde police scam. Anyone help?

I have just been on my computer and a screen has come up saying it's from the metropolitan and strathclyde police and that they have frozen my computer. It is asking me to pay £100 to unfreeze the screen. It is obviously a scam as the spelling isn't brilliant! Has anyone had this and what have they done.
Any advice would be appreciated. I am feeling quite stressed about it as I am not the best on the computer and don't want to leave myself vulnerable to personal info being hacked.

Hi,
I had to switch my computer off at the wall to close it down. The information filled the whole screen and I was unable to do anything. I have switched the computer back on and have nothing there as yet but am not online. I am doing this on my iPad.
I have googled it and it seems to be the scam of the moment . There are lots of different suggestions to get rid of it but am not sure whether these are legitimate or not which is why I thought I would ask on here. Sorry if this sounds a bit basic but I am not really very clued up with computers.0 -
Just bumping in the vague hope that someone may be able to help.:o0

Had this on a few machines lately. Problem is you can't do anything as this malware blocks you from clicking the Start button.
Connect to router with an ethernet cable and start in "Safe Mode with Networking" (more likely for the LAN networking to work in safe mode than the wireless". From here you can download and run/update Malwarebytes.0 -
Had this the otherday....I switched the PC off (and router) then switched on again and pressed F8 this cleared the scam.
After this I did a full Malwarebytes scan...over 2 hours together with the Microsoft Esstentials full scan...both came back negative.
The ME site said that that particular scam trojan had been released on Dec 15th and that it does now get caught providing you have a good firewall.0 -

Hi,
Thanks for all the help. Managed to run malwarebytes but the thing still keeps coming up. Think I will have to pay someone to have a look at it for me after Xmas.:o0
