For info the copper toxicosis test can be done at any age.0

I've since been in email contact with the national bedlington terrier club secretary & she seemed confident that the puppies will be clear. I'll just have to go and see the puppies & parents and go from there.
Just trying to now get prepared as even if I don't get a puppy now, I'll keep looking.0 -
Lots of people will look down on a breeder that uses their own dog and b1tch for breeding but there are breeders who will buy a dog to complement their b1tch rather than it just being a breeding of convenience.
Similarly careful breeding between father and daughter or son and mother etc is not necessarily frowned upon in certain circumstances.0 -

The parent dogs in this case come from different parts of the country. The male is from the north east & the female is from Wales.0

There are quite a few Bedlingtons where I live and they are charming dogs. Most of them seem to be shy and gentle in nature, my border terrier loves them, there is even one that we have not yet managed to say a proper hello to cos he is so shy, but when we meet he gets just that inch or two closer ...0

Not really read through this but I think it's an overview:
http://www.dogplay.com/Breeding/inbreeding.html
I was reading about it on Champdogs. Inbreeding happens in the wild all the time and while "rampant" inbreeding weakens the gene pool, careful inbreeding can strengthen it - as always it depends on the quality of the breeding pair.
I realise that for humans it's taboo, though sadly we all know it still happens, but it's not unnatural for animals. If a female's in season then her male progeny will mate with her if given a chance.0 -
Just re-read the email I got from the breeder in my area recommending the puppies. He said he'd been grooming a 7 month old dog from the breeder whose pups I'm going to see, does this mean she could be breeding more than what is recommended?
The pups I'm going to see are actually ready to go now & I think maybe 10 weeks old.0 -
Might be a different dog. I would ask for the names of the mother and father so that you can do some research on them.0
