EA wont reveal sold price

I beg to differ. It would be a breach of Data Protection and you will have to wait until the figure is published.
There is nothing in the DPA that would make this sort of disclosure a breach, it is not personal information as defined by the act.
On the otherhand it is commercially sensitive information and could be subject to a confidentiality agreement between the Estate Agent and their client.
The "Breach of Data Protection" statement is often used randomly and incorrectly and could be replaced with the more accurate "I don't have to tell you and I'm not going to". Which is the case here.0 -
If it's same agent marketing the property then not surprised doesnt want to tell you. If purchased for more then I think they would have told you. On the basis you like the property and you are about to exchange and you are content you can afford I wouldn't worry too much. Price is based on so many factors I.e the other vendor could have been a distressed seller. If nothing sold in that street then check sold prices of similar spec properties in 5 mile radius on zoopla. Or simply call another local agent and get their opinions on values. They will talk to you. Good luck0

I suspect that you paid more than the next door achieved ..... but it doesn't change anything.Bringing Happiness where there is Gloom!0

Why not ask your (ex?) neighbour?
and if that doesn't work it is against health and safety regulations :rotfl:...The "Breach of Data Protection" statement is often used randomly and incorrectly and could be replaced with the more accurate "I don't have to tell you and I'm not going to". Which is the case here."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Whats your reasoning for this? All we know is that 2 houses in the same road have sold and that the OP is closer to completionI suspect that you paid more than the next door achieved ..... but it doesn't change anything.I am a Mortgage Adviser

I was viewing some properties a while back and wanted to know the price of a sold property by an EA...I got a similar response by another female agent. I find that women are generally more pedantic than men when it comes to telling you information. If that sounds sexist to many oh well. Being female myself I have to catch myself when I do the same LOL.0

*pedantic post alert*
It's got bu**er all to do with being female!
The agent can't tell you because it's private information until the sale has completed then it's publicly available. My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say

Ha ha. Thank you all for your varied opinions. I am pleased to see that it has opened up the floor to some interesting debate.0

Not sure if it would really be illegal for them to tell you - doubt it to be honest (EAs are typically very happy to talk about rejected offers, which would be equally private information). But it would be very stupid of them to tell you in either case. Even if the other house sold for more, exchange presumably hasn't taken place yet on the other property, so if word gets around, this may well jeopardise its sale, so safest to not say anything to either of the parties involved.0

I recently sold my house and another one in the street sold the week before. the owners had already moved prior to the sale and I didn't have their contact details so I couldn't ask them so I spoke to the solicitors office as we were both using the same company. they weren't able to tell me but could give me details of ones where the sale had completed. It was over a month later until I saw the seller and we were able to compare prices. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
