EA wont reveal sold price

Hi,

We are just about to exchange on our property and the property next door has just been bought also.

I asked the estate agent how much the property next door went for and she said she couldn't tell me due to the data protection act, is this right?

Why should the EA want to tell you? Even if they were allowed to?

Wait till the price is published on the Land Registry site.
  • Interesting point of view. Reading between the lines, you don't think the EA wants to or should tell me but what I am actually interested in, is whether or not that would be an infringement of the data protection act.

I would assume not? But I could be wrong.

If you really want to know ask the people next door who are selling the house.

The house should be worth to you what you pay(paid) for it.

I believe she can tell you if it went for the asking price or not (although I could be wrong) the question is why would she? Why do you want to know what an offer on your neighbours is if your on the verge of exchanging on your own?

  • Well, the back story is.

There are only a hand full of maisonettes on the road and no one had moved in our out for 6-7 years so when we saw ours we weren't quite sure whether we were paying over the odds or not.

I think it's worth what we are paying for it, but the other half is a bit of a worrier.
  • Give it a few months and the sold price will be freely available on rightmove and nethouseprices among other websites.
    1. The house price crash will begin.
    2. There will be a dead cat bounce.
    3. The second leg down will commence.
    4. I will buy your house for a song.

as you are so far ahead in the process your purchase can have an effect on the other one, but not the other way round. If your happy with the price dont worry about it.

Assuming the property is being sold by private treaty, the agent should not disclose the agreed price to you.

It would be a breach of Data Protection and you will have to wait until the figure is published.
