T Mobile MDA Compact III

Is exactly the same handset available on other networks?
I have been told that the O2 Xda Orbit is the same.
Does Orange have one?

Anyone know of the best deal on this handset? I dont need too many minutes, but it looks as if the £30 - £35 monthly deals are the only ones I can find without paying over the ods for the handset itself.

Ideally I would like to get the unlocked handset on its own, but its very expensive.

Any ideas to help me out?

Thanks

  • Hi Cindy

It's very easy to unlock, for both, the sim card provider as well as the manufacturer operating system, meaning that you can get rid off all the additional crap software that slows it down.

If you email me at martin@invent2b.com I'll dig out the link to the appropiate software forum. If hove in your name suggests that you live there I can do it for you as I'm just down the road.

I'm looking for the PDA to start with before I know whether or not it needs to be unlocked!

I'm currently on T Mobile, but am happy to change as the coverage in Brighton is dreadful and I am there quiet a lot.

My first priority is to find the actual handset.

I was interested in the Nokia N95 when it comes out in March, but so far the feedback on here has not been good.
  • Hi Cindy

Check out the following link to compare Windows based handsets.
The providers take it from this manufacturer and rebrand it as MDA e.g. for T-Mobile or XDA for O2 etc. E.g. The MDA is the same device as the XDA aka the i-mate K-jam on the website above.

I originally got the phone as an upgrade from T-Mobile for £50, unlocked it and installed the original i-mate operating system using it with a Tesco PAYG sim. It's fine using it for WIfi calls using Skype if the processor is overclocked.

With regards to Nokia, I don't understand why anyone would like to go with it.
Microsoft Windows Mobile based devices offer you are a great range of compatibility and flexibility, enabling you to install all sorts of useful programs. Togethjer with a 2GB card I got all my music and with a (separate) bluetooth GPS receiver superb navigation.

A friend of mine just sold his crappy Sony Ericsson T660 for £180 on eBay and got an unlocked i-mate JasJar for £210. Great deal.

With regards to reception, it obviously varies on the coastline but I never had any problems with T-Mobile or Tesco(O2) apart from the usual problems when being on a train.

    Martin
