    Is this electricity or gas?

It's winter. It's getting cold. And you're probably only paying 15p per Kwh (electricity). It's far cheaper than getting cold and eating more to compensate...

It's important in winter to never let your house get too cold. The critical point is to never let your house to get below the dew point. If you do let it, you'll be spending the money evaporating water - and your house will never warm up until you have.
