Assuming that you really need 600 minutes, the cost of the airtime is about 18x£10 (chitter-chatter, 500 texts).
So, you pay 18x£23 for the handset that costs no more than £326 (amazon).
This is 3% p.m. and 37%:eek: APR

I am due for an upgrade with orange, so I guess it's not such a good deal then, as I've been with them for 12 years

To get the best deal you have to request the PAC 30 days before your min term expires and wait for their retention department to call you. However, even in this case you are likely to find a better deal by shopping around.

What's the PAC?
I have been with Orange for 12 years mostly on contract, however 2 years ago lost my job so went on a rolling sim only plan. I'm now back working so was thinking of a contract as a way of getting a new phone

Porting Authorisation Code
You request it when you want to leave and take your number with you.
It lasts for 30 days and expires if you don't use it. If/when you use it the contract gets terminated.

and less down to £17 for paying £101 upfront
