Might just be me, but I always find the wires in the screen distracting. Always been a VW girl myself, but a friend has a Mondeo and I really don't like those little wiggly lines!

My back windscreen has very thick lines and yes, I hate them and rarely put it on, especially as I do very short journeys mostly to work and worry about the battery however I couldn't see my mates wires.

Surely if it was on Sierras 20 years ago the patent should now have expired?

^^ I thoght it was only me, but I think the lines on the front screen of an S-Type Jag are really distracting. Not at all like on most other Fords, must be to be with the bigger, multi-curved screens.

My 1994 Fiesta has a heated front screen and I couldn't believe that a) it still works, and b) how effective it is! Really good in icy or steamed up conditions and the screen is always clear in about 3-minutes! I only find the fine lines distracting if I focus in on them, otherwise they're not an issue. It's amazing how effective they are.
  • My previous x-type Jag had a heated front screen and I found the wires quite intrusive especialy at night when opposing traffic headlights were visible.

My current Jag XF is much better, I'm hardly aware of the wires at any time.

Agree that it's a brilliant feature though.

Had this system on a Cougar about 10 years ago and loved it. I found it really hard to see the little wiggly lines in the windscreen.

Very good stuff, Ford holds the patent for heated windscreens.

HOWEVER!!!! I would not advise using it prior to very short journey's, for you will eventually find yourself stranded with a dead battery.

Unfortunately for Ford, I believe the patent did indeed expire earlier this year.
Ford do own the trademark on Quickclear so that name will not be able to be used by other manufacturers now copying the technology
It's a pity they don't license it's use to other manufacturers.

Why would they want to do that? They patented the idea to give them a USP over other manufacturers.
Having said that, I think they did grant limited licences to select competitors such as for use on the BMW Mini and I think some VW Passats.
(plus, of course, ongoing rights to previously owned Ford marques such as LandRover, Jaguar, Aston Martin, etc)

They are great as well in heavy rain, it stops all that smearing you get from wipers on a cold rainy day,
