Which cat litter?

Options
Hi everyone i've tried the clay clumping stuff and i don't like the chalky mess it leaves everywhere and i've also tried the wood pellet litter and my kitten (and my previous cat come to think of it) don't like it, they use it once and then refuse to stand on it so they've ended up standing on the edge of the litter tray and doing a poo over the edge onto the floor :S haha so i need to find a new litter once this is all used up!! what does everyone find best for their kittens/cats?

I have tried many litters over the years and without doubt the one I find the best is OKO Plus Cat's Best Litter. It seems quite expensive at first, but I buy 40litre bags @ around £25 which last over three months for five cats / three large litter trays, scooped 3 or 4 times a day.

    I like it because:
    It is bio-degradable
It clumps but it is not clay based, it is some kind of corn product. Clay clumping litters can be very bad if ingested by a cat in large quantities.
It is good at masking smells.
It is not too bad for tracking on the floor (though I do have litter tray mats to reduce this).
It is soft on cats' paws.
Oh, and the cats seem to like it as well :rotfl:

You can buy it from Zooplus, or Pets at Home / Pets Supermarket though I think the largest the latter two have is 30 litre.

You can also buy a smaller 5 litre trial size for around £4-ish to see if you / your cat like it before committing yourself to a large bag.

I also sometimes use a recycled paper one (either Breeders Celect (yes, that is how it's spelt) or Yesterday's News) as I get these free from exhibiting at cat shows. I use them in the upstairs litter tray (I have a few around the house ). These are also good at masking smells and probably track less than OKO, but are not clumping so I find not as easy to clean.

    Which clumping did you try?

There are good and bad clumping litters... I went through quite a few... sigh...

I find this one the best so far, very fine (sand like) granules, excellent clumping, no waste of litter, no smell:

    Or this one:

    Both available at Zooplus.....

FridayCat - is OkoPlus 40 litres delivered in ONE bag?
Which courier can carry THAT? I though the limit for one bag was 32kg and 40 litres is more than that.... hmmmm

I use catsan Hygeine litter. Usually around £5 a bag from Asda for a 10L bag. It is the kind we used at home when I lived with my other cat so was what my parents always bought. It doesn't seem to smell.

Sainsbury's Basics Cat Litter. I've tried a few & they seem happy with this.
It's not clumping, but unlike some others I've tried this is very light coloured until wet, so it's much easier to find and remove used patches.

I like the Bob Martin's Ultimate Cat Litter - it's quite expensive, a fiver at PAH for a smallish box, but it lasts ages. Silicone based stuff, and doesnt smell. You just need to take solids out and top up every so often.

I have tried all kinds of cat litters in an attempt to save money, but the only one that i find is any good is Catsan, which is one of the most expensive i think!

I HATED Catsan! Threw half a bag away it was so bad, i use the Golden Grey one pictured in getting ready's post above.

Oko plus as mentioned above is also good.

  • I use catsan hygine. I did try a crystal once, Sophisticat I think it was called. it was a bit like shiny blue gravel and APPARANTLY can do a month with no smell etc etc. Well either my cat pees way more than normal or that claim is a load of rubbish, I ended up with a vile stinking puddle of cat wee in the bottom of the tray, and no it most certainly did not mask the smell!
    Will stick with catsan!

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.

    Hi gettingready!
Yes, it is delivered in one big bag, or at least a big bag in a big box :rotfl: It is delivered by ParcelForce, same as all my Zooplus orders ;) I have also bought a plastic scoop as the bag is too heavy to tip into the litter trays until it is at least half empty!
