Ryanair - best to add bags later?

When buying a Ryanair flight, am I right in thinking it is sensible not to book any bags but instead to add them at the time of online check-in a few days before flying? I believe it is the same price then. The advantage could be if a passenger cannot travel for some reason, as only the flight costs would then be lost rather than the bag fee (which can cost as much as the flight itself!).

Yes, also you don't get charged a credit card fee when paying for extras afterwards.
  • And it keeps YOUR money in YOUR pocket longer. Only thing that could scupper the benefit is if they put the baggage price up between time of booking and flying
