Long Stratton

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what the traffic is like on the Ipswich Rd/A140.

It is fairly busy at peak times I have to say (not that I use it that often). I've moved up here from Surrey so don't think of it as a problem as was used to being constatntly in traffic:rotfl::rotfl:. There is talk of a bypass but that has been going on for years apparently, although it has been on the news again this week that they might have funding.

I'm sure someone who uses the road more regularly than me will give you more info.

I am used to M25 and M3/M27 traffic so maybe I will think along the same lines as you.

How did you find the move boo? Did you move for work or lifestyle reasons? (Sorry so many questions)

Used to live near there, it can get very busy with heavy traffic and queueing at times, it also had quite a bad reputation for accidents, I always avoided it if at all possible.

Thanks cajef. I think that answers my question. I have a teenager and a young child. The teenager cycles a lot so I think that may be the answer I wasn't looking for! Back to the drawing board in relation to area's to move to then. Hmmmm

  • I use the road regularly and I hate it with a passion. Its always busy and although there is on a 50mph speed limit on the Suffolk side, no one sticks to it.

There are always road works and queues and arghhhh I dread days when I need to go to Norwich!!!
  • I live in Norwich and agree that it's quite a busy road, probably one of the busiest in Norfolk.

Maybe we could help to suggest places to live if you give us some idea of criteria.

In my opinion Norwich and Norfolk is a fantastic place to live.

Long Stratton is one of the cheapest places to live in South Norfolk....for a reason - its a rat-run for the A140!

IF (and thats a HUGE IF) they ever build the by-pass there, the quality of life will vastly improve - but this is very unlikely at present and locals have been campaigning (unsuccessfully!) for years for this to happen.

Long Stratton is also becoming very over-run with cheap new build properties - which also bring along with it problems that you can get (social housing, lack of facilities etc). I used to live and work close by...and would never choose to live there in a million years!

Ditto! To all of the above.

Have you looked at Attleborough? Although I'm not keen on the commute from the south, Attleborough is a rather nice little town and has decent facilities.
