  • I have foil on mine too.

However, when we moved in the oven was minging, yuck. And the thing that worked was bicarb and washing up liquid (I use fairy) mixed up to a nice, thick paste and left to soak in for a little while - I probably left it around 5-10 minutes. And everything came off. Just like that! :D

I've bought some roasting bags to use over Christmas;) ... Maybe I should clean the oven too... hmmm, nah! Lemon juice in water is supposed to lift the gunge off microwaves. Just nuke and leave until cooled down and the grease is supposed to come straight off. Fighting the urge to try it. New oven shelves, now that's a great idea!:T (Not very mse though!;):))

I lay tin foil on the base because I am cheap. But I have a fan oven and it flaps about and drives ne insane. What could I anchor it with?

I have read elsewhere that foil is not a good idea in the bottom of the oven - but it has saved mine, and to get over the flapping, I just weigh it down with 2p pieces. And if I am cooking a cake, and I need to cover it for the last bit of cooking, I weigh down the foil or greaseproof paper with a stainless steel knife for the same reason!
