Sainsburys Value Bio powder?

Hi all,

Is the Sainsburys Value washing powder any good? It's the bio one, white box, orange writing, only about £1.60 for 3kg I think.

I now have gone old style and bought soda crystals and wondered if the cheap Sainsbury's bio is OK to mix with the soda crystals for a real low-cost solution, without compromising on the quality of the wash.

Thoughts welcome - including other Sainsburys or Sommerfield options as those are the closest supermarkets to me :T

It does a good job on my oven racks :D which is all I bought it for as we don't like bio detergents on our clothes.

One persons clean enough is anothers not good enough. For £1.60 buy it and try it.

I agree with MATH, but on personal experience I use Tesco Value bio and it's fine...

But saying that I use vinegar too as my OH can't have non-bio and I find the vinegar removes the Bio residue and has meant he's not itchy when I use it any more (I'm not suggesting anyone else uses this method, just that it works for us). Not sure if the vinegar affects the cleaning power too...?

Thanks guys - I don't know the real difference between bio and non-bio, it's just what the box said. Is non-bio better? I usually buy Persil and don't look at the details...

Bio has enzymes in it to help digest biological stains like blood, egg, sweat, gravy and so on. Modern machines have programmes designed to get the most out of the biological action, with gentle heating of water from cold and soak times built in. They can on occasion cause some skin irritation if you are sensitive. Non bio is just a detergent and IMO doesn't tackle stains as well but favoured by some with babies of very sensitive skin.

non-bio is meant to be better for sensitive skin - and as an eczema sufferer I can completely agree with this!! ;) I often have an adverse reaction to bio - itching, dry skin, rashes etc.

However I understood bio was meant to be better at getting stains out. :D

Thanks Math - clears up an age old question that I had never been able to ask anyone! It seems like a great deal at such a cheap price, just wondered if anyone had actually used it. Being a big name, I would think that Sainsbury's value one would be good if Tesco's value bio powder is good?

Hi newlywed - we seem to be bumping into eachother on the same threads - obviously great minds think alike :D

Well, I guess I will give it a go as it's so cheap - as I also have the soda crystals going in at 50% per load, hopefully they will sort out any issues that the Sainsbury's value powder doesn't.

  • I have been using Asda value bio powder and soda crystals for a few months now. The washing is certainly clean and it's sooooo much cheaper!
I don't always use the soda either, sometimes I run out because I've put it down the sink/washed tiles with it (fantastic for greasy tiles round the cooker!) /washed the floor with it etc. But the washing is still clean even then.
