Hi getting married soon. Thinking about having my surname and fiances surname, so double barrelled. Am wondering if the marriage certificate will be enough or do I need to change name by deed poll/statutory declaration for main bodies eg bank, DVLA etc?
Any advice be great

As I remember, if you are double barreling you have to change it be deed poll for it to be legal, if you are just taking his name you don't.0

Your marriage certificate is enough. I have my maiden name followed by my married name and I have found that dvla, passport office etc have always accepted marriage certificate as evidence.Be kinder than necessary because we do not know the battles that someone else may face

Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding!

To change your name to a double-barrelled name you will need to do it by deed poll. If you were just changing your name to his then the marriage certificate is sufficient.:j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0 -
Thanks, its very soon, small do - did not want to do by deed poll. Worried about doing that and impact on mortgage (which we hope to get next year)0

I didn't need to change mine by deed poll as long as it is on the marriage certificate it has always been enough - likewise when I changed mine back to maiden name I only needed birth certificate.
Solicitor in divorce told me no need for deed poll as it's the name on birth certificate.Be kinder than necessary because we do not know the battles that someone else may face

I didn't need a deed poll to change my name to a double-barreled surname, just marriage certificate. That worked with everything including passport, driving licence, banks etcYou'll have to speak up; I'm wearing a towel0

why dont you want to take his name? i dont see the point of keeping your maiden name, thats the whole point of getting married is to take his name.
There is no way in the world i would let my wife keep her maiden name, no point in getting married then is there? she was not bothered about losing her maiden name anyway
GGRRR!!
The whole point of marriage is for the wife to take the husband's name? Wow, just wow.
Given the somewhat nefarious origins of the tradition of the female taking her husband's name I think it is perfectly acceptable if in the 21st Century a wife-to-be decides that she would like to keep her maiden name in some shape or form.0 -
