I quite fancy a SIM free xperia ray and they cheapest place to buy seems to be on amazon where it's over £40 cheaper than buying direct from o2. Thing is, there's no mention of warranty etc on amazons site with regard to mobile phones, so what happens if it develops a fault? If I bought from o2 I'd judt pop into an o2 shop and they'd send it away to be fixed but what happens with amazon?

You would just deal directly with Sony Ericsson. This usually means having to send the phone away to a repair centre.

Do you just give sony ericsson a call? Can't imagine it being as easy as that - you must need some proof of purchase.

No they know by the ime number how old the phone is and if its new or old
if the phone is under a year old then its guaranteed.

And even if they did require to see proof of purchase, I don't see what the problem would be!

Just returning to this post, amazon does have some cracking deals on mobile phones versus the high street but I still havent taken the plunge! Has anyone ever bought a phone off amazon and had reason to send it away to get fixed? Do you contact amazon? Sony Ericssons support website is useless so I'd hate to go direct to manfacturer.

I might sound paranoid but the last 3 phones I've had have needed to be sent away within the warranty period for repairs (manufacturing defects or software problems).

I have bought three mobiles off Amazon and never had a problem.

They were all unlocked at time of purchase.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

This one is direct off Amazon. It seems all electrical goods (like everything else on amazon) comes with a 30 day return policy, but if there's any faults with the device after that time (and within 12 months) that you must deal direct with the manufacturer for any warranty work.
  • Yeah, if it's direct from Amazon you shouldn't have any problems; Amazon Marketplace is where you need to proceed with a bit more care.
