Should I pay immediately (sorry e-bay newbie)

I was bidding on an item of jewellery this morning, it had a starting bid of £350 so I bid that and as there were no other bidders I won. Postage info says 3-5 days but I was hoping to have it before xmas to have the ring re-sized and cleaned up so I have contacted the seller asking if they could post it next day delivery (at my expense obviously), I have sent a message twice, once this morning and again this evening and no reply yet. Should I pay via paypal and wait for a reply or should I hold off until I have reply before paying?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Hmm...I dont think seller is obliged to meet your request.
I would though - I did it on Monday. Buyer won the auction on Friday, but didnt pay for it until Monday. I had charged for 2nd class p&p, but by sending it 1st Class, she got it today, instead of possibly missing out for Christmas.
But I did that off my own back.0 -

For £350 I would hope seller was intending to send it special delivery anyway as it is the only way they would be covered for a ring via Royal Mail.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks for your replies folks but with all due respect, I would like to know whether I should PAY just now or leave it until the seller has responded?0

Thankyou
Yes it said 'other courier' under the 3-5 days postage, why do you ask?
(Sorry for all the questions, I really am a total beginner with this e-bay stuff lol!)0 -
Because no royal mail economy postage would cover that much, I was worried for the seller!!!
But if they are then it might be easier to persuade them to use a next day service0 -
id pay now and include a note that you request fast postage if poss and willing to pay0

Are there any couriers at all though still doing a fast service? The likes of Collect Plus have suspended their services entirely as have some of the others until after Christmas.
A ring might well be better special delivery as they are setill guaranteeing next day delivery if sent on Thursday and a ring is likely to fall into their 100g weight band for £5.45
Sorry OP gone a bit off topic here as none of this is your problem really. It is entirely up to the seller to get the ring to you, so any insurance is for their benefit not yours. You have full buyer protection as long as you paid by paypal.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Pay now, I would have thought that this time of year anyone selling jewellery would be expecting it to be a gift & would be sending it out SD.0

I realise you are a newbie so I will be gentle. The listing would have included a dispatch time and expected delivery date, therefore you had the ability to check before bidding whether or not it was likely you would get the item before Christmas.
You have now bid and won, the one thing I can guarantee you is the sooner you pay for it the sooner you will receive it. However I would not count on receiving it before Christmas as the seller stipulated quite clearly the time frame you can expect to receive the item in.
Whist I can appreciate your wish to get the item before Christmas the seller is not obliged to send it any quicker than stated in the listing regardless of whether you offer to pay extra for a faster service or not.
My concern when I read posts like this is that the buyer may not want the item if it arrives after Christmas and that wouldn't be fair on the seller. It may sometimes seem like I can't spell, I can, I just can't type0
