Many thanks

try a normal sim, it shouldnt do any harm!0

I'd be careful... As a Blackberry is essentially a data device it will automatically check and download emails. If you're not on a specific contract the GPRS/WAP/3G costs will likely be very high. Please don't take this as gospel but I would be cautious and check first.0

Indeed, take care. The BB talks to the BB server all the time and even if there's no emails moving the data is still flowing. If you have BB with a network the background data (if you like) isn't charged for.
If you just stick a normal acc sim in there you'll be charged for ALL the data used0 -
Oh Oh I thought there was a catch, I just hadnt heard of anyone using a Blackberry with a PAYG Sim. Is there such a thing as a contract/data Sim, or is my only option starting from scratch with a contract/new phone etc.
Thanks all0 -
you could get a free sim from the free sim thread in the freebies board, and try one with no credit on for testing the blackberry to see if you like it0

Also, if the BB's been used before and you don't have the user name and password for the RIM server it won't work any way as there's no way to reset the acc without them (the server work on the Blackberry pin code which is inbuilt to the device and can't be changed. Without acc info from the first setup the server won't talk to the phone).0

Apparently he has noted the pin code, its on the way to me so cannot check it yet. Will put my PAYG sim in, and see if it works and how much it costs me.
Many thanks0 -
You can get the pin from the phone, but to access the RIM server you need the username/password. Once you've got those, go to the RIM site and logon and change the email acc that was originally being spoofed (or you’ll get all your mates emails !!) to your acc and you’ll get alerts with a few seconds of a mail arriving (providing your email supplier is compatible with the RIM system).0

Thanks for that Jon I had no idea it was that complicated, hope he's included the username/password. Watch this space, I may be back for more advice when i receive it.
Much appreciated0
