50% cuts to disabled childrens money

I just don't think this "being supportive" thing cuts it. Carers allowance should be about directly giving care. If a claimant can't do X then a carer allowance should only be given to the person who is doing X instead.
I just don't see how anyone can say "no I can't shower myself but I can bath my three kids safely".
Well yes if the person was saying that them it would be a bit odd, but there are so many different types of illness that affect people in different ways. Given the right help and support then there is no reason why a person with an illness cannot be the main carer for their child.
Direct care payments are there to help you be as independent as possible, and living as close to a "normal" life as you can, well normal in my world would be to look after my son full time, so that is what my PA helps me do.
The problem often seems to be that people assume all disabled people are in wheelchairs and completely incapable of doing anything, whereas there are many ways an illness can " disable" a person, and it doesn't mean that person isn't able to lead a full and fullfilling life doing what they would have done if they weren't illKeely0 -
Carers up and down the country do this. I can't cook a meal for myself and yet my kids haven't starved to death yet. Whenever anyone queries a CA award to someone on DLA the "I give support" line gets trotted out even if the DLA is given for physical health problems.0

Support
- unsurprising means support, an word often misused / misunderstood .. .. like the word indefinite
- indefinite is understood by the disabled community to mean .. .. thank God for that I'll get it forever when in fact it means ;
- till it changes .. it just means .. .. till the Government changes it
- childcare support means monies paid on behalf of the nation to help an individual pay someone else to do what they can not
- so it may be any service where you need to pay someone else because you can't do it yourself
- DLA is for the care & needs condition of the individual child.. .. carers allowance is to support paid carers not parents
There are unfair anomalies in the system, almost exactly a half million people who currently benefit from the childcare support element of WTC .. .. most of whom get the higher rate of £72 and although figures are not available this group will be single parent rather than couples because couples only get £65. This, I agree, is a huge problem for single parents however the state who pay the money on behalf of taxpayers have a problem.
The problem is the taxpayers who pay the money to help the less fortunate get £65 for going to work and the non-working community get £72, that has got to be wrong, the disabled should recognise the need to put their own house in order first.
Are the proposed Childcare and Universal Credit support figures set too low .. .. your damn right they are by about a 12% [ guesstimate ] overall, counting council tax and housing benefit changes, but people posting in this thread seem to be deliberately confusing the needs & mobility problems of a child [ DLA ] with the help needed and given for the support of a child.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Well if most disabled children live in single parent families and need more support why don't the CSA deduct a disabled child premium from the NRP? Child support should be down to the parent, not the state.0

DLA is being cut and reformed for disabled adults so I see no reason why disabled children should be exempt from any "cuts". We are all in this together. I think DLA should become PIP across the board not just for thos eof working age.
I am disabled and was disabled as a child and my Mum and Dad got the square root of buggggger all to help them.0 -
just to add my ten pence worth to this, i do not believe that anyone who claims dla care allowance for themselves at any level should then be able to get carers allowance for anyone else whether that be a child or an adult. i totally agree with glaswejen on this.0

well thats like saying disabled people can't be parents or care for their own child... ignorant view and very narrow mindedKeely0 -
of course they can be parents, and also care for their own kids.
what im saying is if they are claiming financial help to care for themselves (ie claiming the care component of dla for themselves) i dont feel they should also be claiming financial assistance for providing 39hrs of care a week for someone else with care needs....if they can provide 39hrs care a week for another person surely they dont need a carer themselves.
i dont see that as ignorance i see it as common sense.0 -
lol ok I see where you are coming from, my care payments and PA help me to care for him. A lot of my care needs are more about assisting me in my parenting than things like personal care as I can pretty much manage that on my own due to equipment and gadgets of various kinds. I think it's great that my care plan reflects the independence I really want and enables me to have the help I really need according to my particular needs. Anyway I feel as though we have hijacked the OP.. sorry! xKeely0

So the banks caused the country to crawl to it's knees with a continuous recession & disabled children of course have to pay.. It all makes sense....????!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?
I am disabled and due to the bankers messing about with the our money I now have to change my tables to a cheaper one... My family will suffer if the cheaper tables are not good for my condition..“…the ‘insatiability doctrine – we spend money we don’t have, on things we don’t need, to make impressions that don’t last, on people we don’t care about.” Professor Tim Jackson
