Wow, sounds so much like my WP place, offering warehouse apprenticeships. I got offered one, £5 an hour, I asked if it would rise when I turn 21 to match the NMW and I got asked what sort of experience do I have to be entitled to a rise... At that point I just wanted to tear the whole place down. I then got told that I should be taking any job they give me, thats why Im there and then got told I dont need to be on JSA cause I live with my family (he asked me if I live with my family).
a simple response would be entitlement to the minimum wage does not depend on experience.

I've agreed to do a 25 hour a week work experience at ASDA that the work programme provider told me about and have put in an application form for it although they tell me it's pretty much a formality and the work experience will be mine.

I'm pretty much against work experiences in places like ASDA and other retail places as its just free labour for companies and not about the experience at all but I've put aside my own feelings and agreed to do it as it stops the gap of unemployment on my CV since my last employment ended at the end of September 2013.

I asked about expenses while I'd be doing the work experience and I was told he wasn't sure if I'd get any but he'd need to look into it. If he comes back and says I'd need to pay the travel out of my own pocket can I back out of it? I haven't been mandated to do it but because I've said I'll do it I just want to make sure I won't be sanctioned for then backing out as I'm sure they could argue I've refused an opportunity.

It'd be one thing working for free but to actually pay out about half of my small JSA payment a week to top up ASDA's profits would really take the biscuit :rotfl:

you must be able to claim expenses and the person refering you should know that. even though you volunteered often voluntary things become classed as mandatory the moment you agree to them. this may not be the case for you but i would check.

Any info would be great, I am currently on the work programme, I was phoned today by my advisor asking me to come in tomorrow, she said its for a cleaning / customer services job, she said id be in a group session & then have a 1-1 with the company with the jobs, she just said to dress smartly and bring a load if paperwork. She told me to look online at the company called quicksilver which I could not find. Unsure what's supposed to happen, what I'm supposed to do. Has anyone else experienced this in the work programme?

    Is it these > http://quicksilvercleaning.co.uk/

I expect it's a case of someone giving a quick talk about the company and the various roles within it, followed by a 1-1 if you're still awake to see if you're interested and if they're interested in you.
I could be wrong but that's what I would expect. :)
