    As above, just plain silly.

well if appointments were given the same day as signing on - that would be worse in our situation - the job centre is some 5 miles from the Work Programme provider

just another indication of a lack of " joined up thinking" by people at the top

you say you are fair and decent and yet it seems from this you automatically assume anyone who has been out of work for a very long time does not want a job.
Not so - I have not suggested anything of the sort.
also as you havent realised the obvious yet i will tell you it now. a large percentage of those who display negativity of some sort when they see you is because of being on the work programme and not because they dont want a job. you try being sent on things under the threat of sanction all the time and see how you feel about it.
Totally understand - some people are very angry about being sent on The Work Programme. Also understand we do NOT send people on The Work Programme (JCP do), we just have to take the flak.
if the jobcentre have to threaten people to get them to do something then that is a sign that it probably isnt very good.
Unfortunately, all that have been unemployed for a length of time get tarred with the same brush by JCP (or should I say a tick box appears on their computer screen!). SOME people do not job search, SOME people are quite happy being jobless. Alternatively, SOME people are actively searching, sending off applications etc day in, day out without any help from other agencies. Alas the check box on JCP's computers do not recognise the differences.[/QUOTE]
    What's the answer then?

may i suggest that when you do this you make a point of saying still continue applying for what you normally apply for as well.
I most certainly would say continue with what you're normally doing too.
i say this because just like with your post here when this is said
to someone they automatically think great you are lumping us all together and telling us all to go for the same thing, supermarkets, mcdonalds etc.
It's pretty obvious to me that a person who has a 30 year work record in admin (for example) would be encouraged to apply for a particular type of job. A person who hasn't worked in 30 years would be encouraged to apply for a different type of job.it makes you appear incompetent that you are unable to help people get anything better than that.
Bear in mind we also have customers who insist they will only apply for ICT based jobs when they can't turn a computer on and can't read or write. They don't take it too kindly when we suggest that they're not qualified and/or experienced for their job of choice.
As an aside, we can, and do, find 'professional' jobs for our customers who hold the necessary qualifications/experience.

I went today to my appointment and even though I think the work programme wont help me much, I like my work broker and would more than likely go for a drink with him.

Still feeling sick, if I was forced to go though I imagine the scenario would play out like above! Don't understand why I can't just do a jobsearch from home (like I usually do) for this one week. I think even the Job Centre allow for 4 weeks sickness when claiming (2 signing days not consecutive).
its a combination of them needing to be seen to be doing something and annoying you by making you go in there.
i believe the jobcentre allows 2 weeks sick. everytime i say something mine doesnt like she has me going in there fortnightly for jobsearch to punish me. what she doesnt realise is i prefer that to waiting in for a phone call(which is the alternative).

the way you worded your post gave that impression. if you dont think that way then great.

yes but you need to take this into consideration and not assume someone is workshy simply because they arent happy about being there. remember you are being paid a wage to be there, they arent.

first you need massive job creation and then something that matches people to those jobs. back to work schemes dont work.
