What useful courses or training have people been able to get on through the WP? I can see through my research that people have been able to get their CSCS cards, SIA licence and the fork-lift licence but none of these will be suitable for me (5' nothing, slim woman with no construction or warehouse experience), I already have a first aid qualifications dated this year.

I was offered a massive list of courses I could do through Learning Direct and was sent off there to sign up for it so I off I went, skipping along thinking I could do loads of free courses to give me extra skills. What they didn't tell me was any course I did there aside from English Literacy and Basic Maths I had to pay for!! They too offered me a course in fork lift truck driving, not really my scene as I can't even drive a car.

that wont stop them. if they decide you should do something then you do it or else.

i saw my adviser today and for some odd reason she decided to be difficult with me. firstly when discussing a course she is trying to make me do i said i have an option to do something similar in my voluntary work and i prefer that. her response was you will do whichever comes around first. the course she wants me to do is an nvq which means its fulltime and there will be loads of paperwork to get done in my own time. on top of that i will no doubt be expected to keep up with my jobsearch. as the course has no chance of getting me a job and considering everything i have mentioned i dont want to do it. i may end up having to. after that she was arranging my next appointment and of course arranged it for lunchtime again. a few times she has tried to do this and i have said is it possible to make it later and she has always said yes. today she said she wont move an appointment and i have to take the first time she offers even if she has other slots available. she ended by saying i'm not being a cow. i just looked at her and thought yes you are.

Quiet the different from me I ask for a FLT course and they say no chance of getting one. As I haven't got a job in the pipeline which requires a FLT licence. Like banging my head against the wall.

it depends whether any organisations are offering it for free in the area. the wp provider wont pay for it.

When you say loads of paperwork to be done in your own time, is that the same time as benefit money covers?

Maybe she's sick of sitting looking at people and trying to be polite to people who don't think they should earn their own living unless it's on their own terms?

She deserves a medal the size of a bin lid:D

what was it about me saying it is fulltime did you not understand? that means the paper work is done in your own spare time.
whatever the attitude of the person she is seeing is, it is a requirement of her job to be fair and polite at all times.
she does not deserve a medal she is being paid a wage to be there and indulge in her sadistic pleasures. the people she is seeing are not being paid a wage to be there and subjected to unfair treatment. what people like her dont realise is if she wants a stress free time at work as possible she can make that happen by not giving people a hard time. so shes either too thick to realise or she takes pleasure from giving people a hard time.

Or she's just sick to death of people making excuses and she thinks they clearly need a kick up the jacksie and their money stopped until they do something productive?

where was the excuse in my description of what happened today? i simply said i prefered one type of training over another. both are pointless but the one i prefer can be incorporated into my voluntary work and wont impact on the time available for jobsearch.
