Orange BB and free weekend/evening calls - experiences?

Orange have offered me BB and evening/weekend calls for £17.25 per month. That's unlimited BB and includes line rental.

Its a better deal that BT who I'm currently with and has all the same features except BT is limited to 40GB.

Orange also say they do not limit speeds at busy periods.

I'm happy with the service from BT but this is about £5 cheaper so am tempted.

Any reasons why I shouldn't?

This is the main reason why i'm currently switching from Orange to Sky. The last 4-5 weeks i've been getting throttled during peak times. Mainly peer to peer traffic but i've noticed a definite drop in speed for main internet traffic aswell.

They may not limit the speeds at peak times themselves, but the speeds can still go down at peak times because of the number of users online at those times... This does happen with my connection, going from about 9.5Mbps in the afternoon to 4Mbps in the evening, but things like YouTube and iPlayer are still perfectly usable. I'm not sure if it'll be the same at every exchange, though :)

edit: Forgot to mention - I'm on Orange Broadband myself...
  • I have had a lot of speed problem with Orange in the evening for the past few months (i.e. very slow loading speed, often timeout when trying to access the Google site). I think it started around Orange getting rid of their own equipments at the exchange.

I have decided to change to Sky and will be installed in the next couple of days. Will see if there is any difference.
  • We generally only get around 3 at best anyway.

Orange say I will get their Business service so they wont 'strangle' the line a busy times. We'll see.
