  • You did the right thing, he will either appreciate it or not but the fact is you cared enough to try to make a difference to one person, if everyone did that it would be a much better world. MIC

There is a type of waterproof sleeping bag often used by survival/rough camping types - think it's called a bivvi bag but not sure, maybe someone more knowledgeable can help out. But sounds like this would be a good gift if/when you see him again.

Bivvi bags are not sleeping bags but covers for sleeping bags, keeping your bag dry and a bit warmer. You can get the cheap ones from £40 online.

I'm so sorry he wasn't there today CATS but I think you are very kind in following what's in your heart.

When my son was about 4 or 5 years old we used to walk to the shops nearby and often saw a homeless man sitting in the same spot. One day I stopped and asked him if he would like something to eat and what would he like? He was very grateful and said that nobody had ever asked him what he wanted to eat. We saw him often and bought him food after that. I still remember him and so does my son who is now 20. Soon after that we stopped walking that route so I don't know what happened to him but I sometimes wonder if he remembered us or anyone else who ever showed him any kindness.

I hope your man likes and uses what you have bought for him but irrespective of whatever happens the point is that in years to come he might say, oh yes, I remember CATS, she showed me kindness in a world that had not been kind to me. To plant that little seed of kindness , to let him know that the world is not all cruel, would be a priceless thing in my opinion :)

Aww Cats, i'm really sorry he wasn't there, i really wanted to hear about what happened? like marywooyeah said earlier, "hopefully he was somewhere warm getting a nice meal or something"

Please keep us all posted on what happens?

Untill then, you should be very proud of yourself, what you have done, is amazing, so selfless!! if the world had more people like you, it would be a better place, for all to live.

    Merry xmas cats xxx
  • CATS, I have tears strolling down my face reading your thread.

Your kindness and thoughtfulness are somewhat rare these days unfortunately.

If I see a homeless person in winter, I will more often than not buy them a cup of tea/coffee, I can't bear the thought if anything ever happened and one of my children when older were living rough and people walking past. I wouldn't judge any homeless person until I've walked a mile in their shoes.

I wish you a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

ok I have just been out to my lunch and bought a rucksack a sleeping bag, which is not very expensive but hopefully should be ok. Thermal under base, hat, scarve, gloves, fleece top, and the thermal flask. Only thing I could not find is the dog jacket and the dog treats. really annoyed. Poor dog :( but everything around here is for office workers so the supermarkets dont have the dog food and today is my last day at work until Jan!!!! I dont know what to do. I am so excited and hope he likes the things. Some times I feel like I take, take, take from the world and don't give back often enough, so I am very excited about this. Will update to his reaction, I hope its positive

Let us know what happened when you gave him the items:)
Capital one was £1000.00 now £0.00:j

Watching an item on Breakfast tv about the homeless. They say the average life expectancy of a homeless person is 30 years less than someone who is not homeless.

It is just so sad. I am almost in tears watching the item. I wish I could win the lottery and I would do my utmost to find a solution.

There's a homeless man in our town. Amazing, as it is so middle class, and completely unexpected. Hard to age him, he looks about 60, but is likely to be much younger. He sits upon some flat cardboard and has a plastic cup with a stone weighting it down.

I felt ashamed to be worrying about Christmas dinner when this poor soul has nowhere to live and seemingly no one to care about him. But, I wasn't sure about donating, so I mentioned him to staff of our small supermarket, I really only wanted to know was he likely to get aggressive, did anyone know anything about him if I were to drop some coins in his cup.

The young lady on the next till responded with compassion and 'ah, poor man' type comments. The young woman I spoke to said 'He shouldn't be there, I'll ask management to move him.'

I was outraged and desperately disappointed. I dropped coins in his cup, and as I did so a supervisor walked past to ascertain his whereabouts. He's not been seen in that spot again, he now sits a little way up, but near enough. We'll pop over ont he day with some food if he's there, and continue to give a little when we walk past him.

Well done OP for your charitable concern, you truly encourage belief in human kindness.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

This is what judgemental people should think about, it could happen to anyone.
If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in :D
