Servicing outside of dealer network?
I have a MY2010 Kia Picanto, first registered 02/03/11 - first service due soon.
Dealer service prices are excessive IMO:
£149 10,000 miles
£260 20,000 miles
£149 30,000 miles
£300 40,000 miles
Am I right in thinking that all I need to do to keep my warranty is have it serviced to schedule by a VAT registered garage using genuine parts?

Yes that's right. As long as they use genuine Kia parts then your warranty is intact.0

^^^^^^^^
Correct - it's worth asking for a receipt that quotes the part numbers they have used ( any reputable garage should be able to do this, most will do anyway as a matter of course ). Then there can be no argument if you ever need to make a warranty claim.0 -
Is this a seven year warranty.?
Only you can decide what you want to have happen if you need to make a claim in the next seven years.
Full Kia service history = Very difficult for Kia to reject a claim.
Never been touched by a Kia dealer = possibility that Kia will examine all the paperwork for every service and look for the slightest deviation from their service schedules.
Not saying they would just that they could.
It may affect resaleability or value as well.0 -

Be aware that if you have some form of free breakdown service included with the car this entitlement will be lost once you go outside the dealer network.
And a final point to consider is if you're car was to have a major issue outside warranty you'd be hard pressed convincing Kia to give you a goodwill contribution if you chose not to have your car serviced with their network.0 -

True, but it would ultimately be up to a court to adjudicate on that. If my car developed a fault within warranty period I'd be building my argument around the chain of causation: i.e. did the deviation from the service schedule actually cause the fault? If it did not, wriggling by the dealer may be contrary to unfair terms legislation.
The vast, vast majority of faults on modern vehicles within warranty period are nothing whatsoever to do with engine oil that was changed a bit too late. Broken electric window motors, ABS/ECU failure, etc - they would all have happened regardless.0 -

That's an awful lot of extra time and trouble to risk for the sake of possibly saving £50 a year.0 -
Nowadays main dealers are often competitive against independents.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0

Those prices seem reasonable to me and FIXED service cost will include any out of the routine items. I doubt you would save much and if anything needs doing outside the norm an independent will charge extra."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Those prices don't look too bad to me either - Honda want £430 for a 75k mile service on my 4 year old civic - all because they should be changing the transmission fluid, local Honda specialist will do it for £210 (or sit at home honda non-specialist i.e me will do it for about £80-100, but no stamp in an otherwise full honda book), unless you'll be making that kind of saving then it's not worth bothering about imo.0
