hospital claim my friends putting unborn baby at risk.

my friend is having trouble with her pregancy, her previous C section scarr is starting to tear open from inside out from the babys growth and sh also has a lump behind her placenta causing her significant pain. when she first went into hospital with the pain, the hospital told her that she was contracting (pain induced labour), she was only 20 weeks and the hospital was reluctant to intervien and said they would ride things out for now and see how she gets on, gave her an injection in her leg and give painkillers, second time she went in they did an ultrasound wich revealed the lump, and examination of the pain in her front tummy revealed that the scar is opening from inside out and bleeding she was again in "pain induced labour" and again the hospital sent her away with pain killers.
fast forward to now, she's 27 weeks been in and out like a yo-yo, and last time admitted was told she wouldnt carry full term due to the lump and her scarr tearing open. she's unable to deliver normally and has to have a C section, they told her go one more week then we'll admit you into theatre gave her all sorts of things to help the babys lungs etc.
friday she was admitted (2 weeks later they recomended that she try and push for as much development time as possible but not risking opening the scarr) but unfotunately the baby special care unit was full and there was no beds on meternaty ward and she was transfured to another hospital, they monitored her reguarly, and has viewed her soothing her painfull tummy by rubbing it not applying pressure at all but rubbing it, the hospital has called social services claiming she is deliberatly harming her unborn baby in this manor of rubbing her belly and has noted it in her medical records.
the nurse she had then proceeded to tell her that in her opinion she was forcing herself into labour, the doctor came in and pushed heavily on her scarring to asses the baby's possiotion as the ultrasound machine was in use at another bed, assessed the baby is breach gave her more painkillers and sent her home.
she is extremely annoyed that they accused her of harming her unborn baby, she finds soothing her belly by rubbing it with no pressure a pain management, but according to the hospital she is putting undue harm on her unborn child by doing this.
any meternaty nurses ever heared of this, because if thats the case then surely what ive whitnessed with my own partner is that when a doctor pushes heavily to assess a prospective mum they could be doing serious damage, as well as ultrasounds speculum tests etc putting needless harm on ones unborn child inflicted by a proffessional.
she wishes to complain about this, but doesnt know who to complain to, she said after the nurse said this to her their attitudes changed towards her and she felt unwelcome and felt pushed out of their doors.
they performed no ultrasound, no baby heart monitor, nothing just watched her for a few hours, nurse said that, doc came in had a poke at her then out the doors she went. she scared now that social services have been notified, that comment being in her med records will alter peoples attitude towards her. she having to go back in tommorrow to the first hospital for more assessments because hospital number two didnt do anything other than a feel, she already been to the emergency out of hours because after the doc pushed on her tummy, she started to bleed from below, and now it is thought the scarr has torn badly and the bleeding isnt being stemmed by clotting as the tear is so big and deep. you look at her belly and the scarr and where its supposed to be a whitish pink as youd expect half of it is now deep purple and bruising underneath towards her privates. it noted in her medical files there should be no physical exam due to the scar opening only ultrasound and baby heart monitoring and speculum tests.
sorry this is long winded. so question is "is rubbing your tummy during pregnancy harfull to an unborn ?"

Not at all. It's only like massaging your belly.
My doctor told me to rub cream on it if it itches, they wouldn't say that if wasn't safe to.
Also, there's far more pressure put on the stomach by midwives during exams and sonographers during scans than a pregnant woman is likely to do while rubbing.
I can't understand why anyone would have told your friend that.
The only thing I can think of is if she was rubbing anywhere near the scar. X0 -
The question is: does she need to go back to that hospital?
What the nurse said was her opinion or perhaps it was advice not properly understood. In your friend's opinion she was wrong. What's to complain about? Nasty lady said something mean to me? Where you there? I think your friend should let it lie and try to hold onto this pregnancy for as long as possible. And hopefully deliver her baby somewhere where she is understood and a lot more congenial.0 -

whats to complain about? lets see, the midwife contacting social services for one because her opinion was that she was putting her unborn baby at risk by rubbing her belly.
if it was advice why call social services??
her scar is too tender to touch has been since her bump started growing so avoids touching it when not needed i.e bathing etc
i wasnt there, but her partner and her partners mother was and have both said the same thing.
they felt as though they werent welcome, and not one of the staff was pleasant from the moment they got there, then this was said and noted on her med files and social services called and she was sent home.
she would not need go back unless our distric hospital is full again. they could send her there 60miles away from district hospital or to london.0 -

What's to complain about is the hospital has called social services! That could cause her problems in the future and is more than just someone saying something mean to her!0 -
I don't know why they'd report your friend to social services unless she was rubbing her belly in a seriously aggressive manor.
As someone (me) who is 8+ months pregnant with a c-section scar, the amount of pulling/tension that can be put on the scar merely by moving in bed, I don't think the midwives should be so worried about a bit of rubbing TBH.
I would advise your friend that she doesn't have much to worry about unless she has said or done something else wrong that she's not telling you about maybe?"If you don't feel the bumps in the road, you're not really going anywhere "

I got told by a horrified midwife at 20 weeks that rubbing my sore back would make me miscarry when admitted for bleeding.
I stopped doing it. Nobody said a word about it after then. DD was born safely at 41 weeks.
Rather than insisting on carrying on and complaining, perhaps she should just stop doing it? A scar rupture and accompanying haemmorhage can be a medical emergency that is life threatening to both mum and baby and can result in an emergency hysterectomy.
(There are people out there that would try and do as she accused your friend of doing. Just because your friend doesn't mean to do that doesn't mean that it's unheard of)I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

I'm so sorry. I missed the part about Social Services being called in your long litany of facts and opinion up there. That's just mental.0 -

They haven't been called. She said 'she scared now that social services have been notified'.
So we don't know.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
She could talk to her GP or health visitor about her worries and ask to find out more. Also, she has a right to access her hospital records under the data protection act and she can read for herself what has happened. There may be a small fee for this. Our hospital lets patients see them free if they've recently been admitted.Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.
I've got ADHD. You can ask me about it but I may not remember to answer...0 -
Edit - if I'd been told I was deliberately harming my unborn baby, especially in such a terribly frightening situation as that, I'd have been hysterical, so I can understand why she's upset.Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.
