I know I know, Ive finally moved on and embraced modern technology :rotfl:
But those newfangled self service checkouts are great, first time Ive used one
today
No i don't live in a cave, or in the middle of nowhere, just had visions
of the thing going wrong and me loosing my rag and going off on a rant but
I must say what a pleasurable experience it was.
All the other checkouts were chockablock, what with it being christmas, and
people lining up with their trolleys brimming of shopping, so thought I would
let Tesco take my self service cherry...
A basket full of stuff, maybe 3 bags full, all put through in a matter of minutes,
no annoying "unexpeted item in the bagging area" etc that ive read of happening
so much, although the loose bananas posed a bit of a challenge, pressed the buttons,
weighed them and then didnt know what to do :rotfl: I got rather flustered, I picked
them up and nothing happened, no satisfying beep or prompt to say place in the bag
etc, so put them back on and they weighed again, thought I would get charged twice,
then just stuffed them in the bag and all was well, no being pulled over by the superviser
for shoplifting phew
Then came the payment, emptied out my pocket of change, always try to offload it in
the supermarket, but had no sneering checkout girl looking at me as if I just asked to
eat her baby, it was all rather pleasing.
So there you have it, a praise about Tesco self service from a ss virgin.
I will be using it a lot more often now..
I'm beginning to think I lead a very boring life if this mundane thing pleased me

Tesco self-service is quite easy to use -- you should try the Morrisons ones, the bags are set back slightly and putting items in the bag involves a ten mile trek from machine to scale!!!! (okay slight exaggeration, but you get the point).0

Well done. That's one of the reasons I like using them, emptying out pockets. No more waiting to be served. I have modern things I can't be bothered to use or don't like using as well, eg Blackberry and touch screen mobiles. Yeah, yeah, I know...0

arcorn5,I get your point. Morrisons ones are annoying,it's true. Good to hear someone else who doesn't like them much.0

They have their moments - you still have to wait for help if you buy alcohol or a DVD etc. The ones in Asda at one point wouldn't let me buy indegestion tablets without flagging up a warning!
the old 'please place the item in the bagging area' is a nightmare too if you buy someyhing really light, like a greetings card, that the scale doesn't pick up.
Better than queuing behind that annoying person who insists on emptying their pockets of all their change though.....0 -

I agree that Morrisons are the worst. All the other supermarkets have the same machines and the technology has clearly been refined over time. So what do Morrisons do, get completely different machines that no one else uses, most likely because they don't work properly. They probably get them cheap.0 -
I am with you. I don't mind using the SS checkouts.
It's just annoying when it starts broadcasting "Unexpected item in the bagging area"....and I always feel embarrased as I am think to myself all these people must be thinking I am trying to take something without paying.0 -
Keep people in jobs even if they are mundane !
Boycott the Self Service Tills !0 -
One told me to seek assistance buying Christmas crackers the other day. Apparently they're 18+ only!!0

ooooh no! i'd still rather queue up than use the self service.
I just lose the will to live with the self service tills, B&Q aren't too bad although they want an assistant if the weight is slightly wrong. One told me to seek assistance buying Christmas crackers the other day. Apparently they're 18+ only!!
probably the gun powder0 -
The reason I insist on going to SS tills in Tesco is because I know I will get my green clubcard points (cos I add them myself). It is amazing how many sales assistants don't add them even when you say "I've got my own bags" and show them a plethora of bags for lifeNO MORE HANDWASH GLITCHES PLEASE
