  • That's probably the issue - they found they couldn't get any more of that particular model for whatever reason. Still, I think advertising it as a special without being sure of stock is a bit naughty.

I did guess that Logik was their 'house' brand, a bit like Matsushita used to be (I believe) and plenty before that. Still, the reviews were generally good.

While I can see the advice for going for a known brand, I watch TV so little that it doesn't really justify it and I have a sound system next to the TV I can plug it in to if the sound really is terrible. Also, 32" (never mind 32 foot!) is far too big for my room. Something in the 24-26" range is ideal. If I'm paying £250 I'll stick with what I have until it breaks, as I say I don't watch TV enough to justify that much.

I did notice a few Samsung models at Richer Sounds that looked OK, I may call in there. Part of the reason I was looking at the Logik over others is the PVR but it seems that the ones that have a USB PVR can only record from the internal tuner which isn't much use to me as I have Virgin cable...

26" is a good size tv for a smallish room, but because not many manufacturers offer that size they can actually be quite expensive. If you can manage with smaller, 22" tv's are available very cheaply. The other thing to remember is that lcd tv's have much thinner frames and smaller depth than crt tv's, so a 32" one actually wont be much bigger overall than your current crt.

I don't think you have any recourse in law I'm afraid, but I think you will find it a blessing to have your order cancelled because if you wait a while and keep looking I am sure you can find a better tv for around the same money.

If are thinking of using Richer Sounds I would ring before you go and check if the tv is in stock. They are a bit notorious for advertising stuff on the web site that is not available. they are good if you need to retuen stuff though.
  • Thanks for the info. I think my current TV is a 28" but it is 4:3 rather than 16:9. To be honest, it is too big for the room, that is why I'm thinking 26". I assume LCD TVs are like monitors in that size-for-size they are bigger? In other words, a 15" LCD monitor is about the same screen area as a 17" CRT. I know the aspect ratio makes a difference.

I did have a 21" CRT in the room which was a bit on the small side which is why I think a 22" would be too small being wide-screen. I'm thinking 24" or 26" depending what I can get.

I've not seen much for £120 so unless there are some real bargains in the sales I think I'll be looking at £30-40 more...

Richer are very handy for me so no trouble to drop in and see what they have. I've used them loads before and their service has always been great. I know what you mean about the stock not always being available though...

Think you may have had a lucky escape there my friend !
According to my nephew , a store manager for currys , most of the managment are expecting the group to go bust in the new year !
Apparently the takings are down about 18-20 % even with heavy discounting so you may have had a good deal on the tv BUT not much hope on the warranty if Currys own brand !
    Merry Christmas !
