This thread has become bitter!
OP should pay bills promptly - he had a call where he expected a letter. Many people have been caught out by scammers claiming to be a reputable company and are best advised, if in doubt, to offer to call the company back on a number they know.

stresses on finances this time of year is not a valid excuse not to be rude it is not like christmas and winter do not happen annually so is a known event - the bottom line is you are obviously experiencing problems budgeting for what is an expected expense and you need to address this with your supplier sooner rather than later. Getting annoyed because they choose to call you regarding the bill does not help you no matter how irritating it is to be reminded you have a financial issue.
Everyone on the forum has been there at one time or another and many are offering sensible advice from actual experience.
Set aside money each week/month or however often your income is paid and put it in a easy access savings account that you can manage over the counter or with a cash card - the Halifax do one with a reasonable interest rate, that way you will at least have some money ready, ideal way is dd and you can get a discount on your bill for that, look at changing suppliers to get a better deal.
Bottom line is you have to pay as you have used the product.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0
