Just use the search funtion in teh AppStore - you will find loads of free and paid for apps for what you want - always try the free ones before buying anything.

Swear by 'Spending Log' to keep a watch on what you're spending, I use it loads0

The iPhone has a native Checklist in iOS5 - I agree that RedLaser is a really good scan/lookup app, which is free.0

I know you did say a free 'to do' app, but if you can spare a few quid then i'd highly recommend Clear. Probably the most user friendly app i've used:
