Free handset with PAYG

I'm with o2 and would like to update my ancient handset. Does anyone know if there is a way to get a free handset on PAYG?

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

Why would anyone give you a free handset without committing you to airtime? If they did, everyone would take the free phone and use it on another network, or sell it on.
There are loads of handsets available network unlocked for under a tenner, usually they require a £10 top up though.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

It's not O2, and not android in fact, but free: £10 1 month rolling contract with android phone

The OP is looking for a free PAYG upgrade, that does happen sometimes at places like CPW etc, but with a basic phone. Earlier in the year, phones4u were offering an Alcatel ot-303 plus £10 top up for upgrading vodafone customers for £7.50. O2 were offering the LG GB01 for £10 with an included top up.

So, yes you can get free PAYG phones.
