I thought he was a financial advisor, what happened to spreading the risk?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
Why would Kirstie be interviewed about property - I thought she was a homecraft person?0

Well with 100,000 sales a month for a year, surely a proportion of those were STR's, unless you or ISTL have any evidence to the contrary?
Didn't thinkso, your opinion is moot...
As wotsthat said, the general concensus amongst both "bulls" and "bears" was that the number was miniscule.
I'm very happy if you wish to provide the facts for further discussion:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach.

I dont know - i was simply questioning it - I remember reading sometime ago that the ploughed cash into gold after STRing. If he indeed put everything into gold then he is either very clever and brave or very stupid and lucky.I thought he was a financial advisor, what happened to spreading the risk?0 -

She has never had to worry about money in her life, nor is she probably even on speaking terms with anyone who has. She has not even the vaguest clue what it might be like to worry about retirement or not be able to pay a bill, or what leveraged property ownership over 25 years might mean to a person who actually has to work for a living.
She dropped out of A levels in her exclusive private school because she was too thick to do them and couldn't see the point anyway, a fact she has occasionally joked about on TV, without any apparent irony.
Due to her connections, plummy voice and reasonably pleasing visage she landed a selection of media jobs and ended up on TV plugging property, as at some point two synapses in her brain had overcome their genetic torpor and evolved to connect together with the understanding that in a rising housing market, making a house a bit nicer makes it worth more.
That as far as I am concerned is the sum total of her knowledge in economics. She just doesnt have the wit or the brain power to defeat Merryn, either in the arena of political debate, or in my putative mud wrestling contest.
You sound rather jealous of her.0 -

They'll be paying their rent for longer into old age if they bought a house 12 months ago rather than today, given that the Land Registry shows prices falling 3.2% in the last 12 months..
Erm right, so they pay 5-7% in rent and gain 3.2% in house price falls, if they continue....
Wow, you should be an FA.0 -

Look at the figures.
In which period, and with how much margin of error, would someone have had to have sold and rebought in order to make a 'fat' profit, when considering rent, fee's etc?
You'll find it's very slim. And despite the odd muppet on forums (most of which lost tens of thousands), most people aren't willing to gamble their house.
There are muppets here that (claim to have) lost 30k by waiting and see that as a resounding victory.0 -
I'm sure he cried himself asleep when gold over quadrupled. What was that £370-£1700 an ounce. Also if he bought it in gold Sovereigns or Britannias it would be capital gains tax free.
Oh isn't capital gains on buy to let going from 28-40% in April.:D
Yes, lets assume he didn't have a mortgage & he put everything into gold (though I seem to remember he was ramping the US stock market at the time), and I'm sure we can make it a very positive outcome.0 -

I always find this an odd line of argument. The same thing is always thrown at Cameron. "He's a rich toff and a millionaire, why does he care about the poor?", you hear people say. Now, I disagree with a great deal of Cameron's policies and views but I won't accuse him as not caring about the poor because he's rich. I don't know the man, so who am I to judge? Just because someone is rich or from a privileged background it doesn't mean that they can't show compassion or understanding to those that don't.
I fully understand why people don't like Kirstie Allsop and that's fine. And by all means disagree with her points. But assuming that she can't empathise with different people because she had a certain uprbinging is a bit subjective, and a little bit insulting to be honest.0
