PCOS in pregnancy

I have PCOS, conceived naturally and I am currently 22 weeks. I also read about the increased risk, got myself into a right state. Doctor was no help either, told me it wasn't true, PCOS only effects my ability to get pregnant and not my ability to stay pregnant and that I would get no further help unless I have miscarried before.
It's hard but stay away from Google and just try and relax and enjoy. Your body knows what to do.0 -
the doctor may be able to perscribe metformin which research has show can reduce the risk of miscarriage in ladies with PCOS, however it is not liscenced for pregnancy so it is only a handful of GPs who would be happy perscribing it.
but the important part to note is that whatever you or your doctor can do can only decrease the risk of miscarriage, it can't make it go away. i was taking metformin when i conceived and carried on taking it during my pregnancy but unfortunately still miscarried.
Unfortunately, what will be, will be. Stressing yourself out by finding out what google says the risk of miscarriage is won't stop you from having one and stops you from enjoying this part of your pregnancy. No matter the outcome, you'll only be pregnant with this baby this once. enjoy it x xLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

Hello all, thank you so much for your replies. I've spoken to my doctor who said that he wasn't aware of a higher m/c risk with PCOS, but that nonetheless what will be will be, and to continue looking after myself and not to worry. He also said that my PCOS is not at the severe end of the scale, so I'm hoping that all will be well.
It's been lovely to hear your stories and to have your support, and I promise I'll stay away from Google from now on! xx0 -
I too have PCOS. I have been pregnant four times that I am aware of, and have two children. All were natural conceptions, the losses were early on, and the pregnancies that continued were free of complications, including trouble free births.
What will be will be. Even if you lose this one, you now know that you can get pregnant.
Good luck!

Hi
Try not to worry - I don't have PCOS and I have had a mmc in 2005, so just goes to show that what will be will be whether you have PCOS or not. I thought PCOS meant you had trouble conceiving, never heard the higher risk of mc.
Take it easy and relax, enjoy the pregnancy x0 -
Firstly, congratulations!
Secondly, every pregnant women, particularly those who thought they'd have trouble conceiving or have lost babies in the past, worries about miscarriage.
Thirdly, there's nothing you can do other than try to relax. As far as I'm aware, miscarried pregnancies don't make it (especially the early ones) because of problems inherent in the embryo and are entirely unrelated to things like PCOS.
What will be will be. The first few months of any pregnancy are pretty stressful and horrible, IMO. Nothing will stop you worrying. But stay away from Google.

I have PCOS and a DD of 5. My friend has PCOS and has had 3 pregnancies. Niether of us has ever had a miscarriage.I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be0

Yep, I'm another one who conceived naturally naturally twice and had healthy pregnancies.
Please stay away from google...it isn't your friend. :mad:Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage.0 -
Hi there
I have PCOS and tried for 6 years for a baby before I fell naturally, (you should ask about taking metformin for first 12 weeks, maybe ask to see a doctor who is more PCOS aware), I never suffered any miscarriages and my baby boy was born last Sep with no probs, and no probs during pregnancy.
Just take care of yourself, cut out alcohol, caffeine, take your folic acid, and stop googling lol, good luck hope everything goes smoothly for you and you have a sticky little bean xx0
