PCOS in pregnancy

Dear all

I have posted on this forum before about my concerns about conceiving with PCOS, and everyone was so helpful, that I wondered if anyone can help with this query?

I have been recently diagnosed with PCOS through an ultrasound test and day 21 blood tests. The blood tests showed that I had ovulated and that my blood showed PCOS but not exceptionally high levels. Unbelievably that cycle I became pregnant naturally and am now 6.5 weeks along. I'm absolutely thrilled but have managed to work myself up a bit about all of the sad stories on the internet about high rates of miscarriage linked to PCOS.

I wonder if anyone could give me any advice about how I can try and reduce the risk of m/c, or what I should be asking my doctor?

Thanks all x

I would say the best thing you can do is to get an appointment with your GP to discuss this as they will be able to suggest any possible treatment you may require.

The other thing is would say is step away from google! It will only increase your stress levels which is not good for you or baby.

Wishing you the best of luck with your pregnancy.

  • Thank you so much for your post Bella - it's great to hear a happy story about PCOS! I know you're right that it's impossible to tell if a pregnancy will stick, but it definitely helps to hear other people's stories.

If anyone else has any advice, it would be lovely to hear it x
  • Thanks also to Emsbet, I agree that Google isn't helping! I will try and get a phone appt with my doctor tomorrow. He has seen me so often recently, I worry that he's getting fed up with me! But baby is definitely more important x

I wouldn't worry about that, it's what he's there for. He will at least know your history well if he's seen you recently.

Honestly try not to worry too much about it (I know that's easier said than done) and try to enjoy your pregnancy.

I had PCOS, conceived naturally (without trying!) and had a problem-free pregnancy, other than all-day sickness.

    Congratulations!

  • Just wanted to add another voice saying I have PCOS, conceived naturally and had a happy, healthy and successful pregnancy. I wasn't aware that there was an increased risk of miscarriage with PCOS so I suppose I never thought about it while I was pregnant. Congratulations on your news and try not to worry too much (easier said than done I know!)
  • Just to add that I also have PCOS and conceived naturally and had a trouble-free pregnancy.

I completely understand what it's like to worry, I also have diabetes and some of the stuff I read online about increased miscarriage risk etc etc really stressed me out. However, all you can do is take things steady, try to avoid stress, take folic acid and anything else the GP/midwife recommends.

Congratulations on your pregnancy - hope all goes well
  • I have PCOS and unfortunately have had multiple very early miscarriages, though this is not entirely related to the PCOS. But I still wanted to post as one of my best friends also has PCOS and she has four children, all were uneventful pregnancies. Good luck, and congratulations!
  • I too have PCOS. Ive now got 3 wonderful children but yes ive had 2 misscarriages. Please try and take things easy. Ive found that quite a lot of my PCOS symtoms decreased during pregnancy.
