Right, so the next thing to look out for is a message from the seller asking for a return of the box.

    Good call!!

In that case, I'd ignore it the letter.

But I can't see it personally. The seller has no control over the location of the seller, they could be in the same street, or at the other end of the country. How does that work with a handwritten note? If the OP had been in, would they have asked for it to be handed over on the spot?

I think it was hand written, not hand delivered.

That's the way I read it.
  • Hmmm seems a bit odd. But if you had got through to me with that letter I would have asked a higher up, bets are though that no one would have a clue and would tell you to be aware of a scam.

Personally, and bearing in mind also the points made by Spike, I would mail a photocopy of it to:

    Jeremy Darroch,
    Chief Executive,
    British Sky Broadcasting plc,
    Centaurs Business Park,
    Grant Way,
    Isleworth,
    Middlesex.
    TW7 5QD

in an envelope marked "Private & Confidential - Internal Security Issue" with a covering letter seeking guidance.

I think you would also be wise to report it to eBay, to cover yourself.

But that's just what I would do.
