My debt is just due to overspending too - I've had no life crisis or anything, just poor money management. Great on the insurance refund though!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0

Money finally made it into my bank account so could make the payment. Several NSD days this week and managed to get away with a £23.11 spend in Mr T for the week. This is good as it means we still have £30 for going out to the pub on HognamayMFW 2024 £27500/7500 Mortgage £129,500 Jan 22 Final payment June 38 Now £68489.08 FP May 36 Emergency Fund £20,000 100% Added to ISA 24 £8,060 Save 12k in 24 #31 £20,034.76/20,000 Debt Free 31.07.140

Hello, just popped in to wish you well on your journey and congrats on having a few NSDs at this time of year. I think I've only managed it 25th December, and that was purely because everywhere was shut!LBM Dec 2011. Aimed, but failed, to clear all unsecured debt by Feb 2019. Well a bit of a belated Happy New Year to you all!
So what's been happening? Well managed to finish December with a NSD. We went to a neighbours party, took drink we had stockpiled in the house and never actually made it to the pub.... Met some really nice folks though and I didn't get hungover the next day, unlike DH...:)
Have been busy in the kitchen. I'm slowly getting the hang of meal planning. I cooked a large chicken on New Years Day and did make sure to strip all the meat off it. So that did samwiches and dinner today and should be enough for tomorrow as well. In the past I'd only have got 2 meals so its progress. I also made more chocolate buns which seem to be going down well.
Did my regular cc payment today so a bit more off the balance. I've got another £8 in change bagged up to go to the bank this week and I've signed up to some survey sites. Tomorrow's challenge is to start listing things on ebay  me and technology are not always the best of friends!MFW 2024 £27500/7500 Mortgage £129,500 Jan 22 Final payment June 38 Now £68489.08 FP May 36 Emergency Fund £20,000 100% Added to ISA 24 £8,060 Save 12k in 24 #31 £20,034.76/20,000 Debt Free 31.07.140 -
Hi Floozie,
Glad to hear you had a nice New Year and are back in the zone.
I can't believe how little I have to show for my debt eitherI am doing OK now we are back with the programme so to speak but I do feel very bitter about how much I frittered away before find the ways of Martin
Tonight for instance, I had a packet of whoopsied mince in the freezer, it was defrosted and fed 4 adults and one child and another portion for OH's lunch tomorrow at work. It was bulked out with oats, carrots, courgettes, mushrooms, a tin of tomatoes. In old times, I just used the whole packet of mince for two adults with nothing added in - so wasteful.
Just keep swimming!0 -
Hi Itsa, welcome to your DFD and best of luck. You'll get tons of support on here, and great tips. Here's one: don't worry about defrosting the bread for sandwiches, just make them up and they'll be ready to eat by lunchtime. If you spread the butter (or spread) to the edges, they won't go soggy.
Satchmo xWhat would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
Well a dose of the lurgy and a busy weekend on call have had me away for a bit but back on today.
I'm managing to stick to the Jan GC which I'm really proud of as, in pre MSE days, could easily spend over £100 at the spermarket for just the two of us. We're cooking more and haven't had a single takeaway or meal out this month.
Today saw my first foray into the whoopsie section of Mr T. After reading some of the posts on here about trolley snatching and fighting I was feeling nervous but just me and one little old lady browsing through and I bought some mince. I'd always thought that things would be really about to expire but the meat did have a couple of days on it so plenty of time to get in the freezer. Small steps...
Spent 20 min on hold trying to get through to the tax office. The woman I finally got hold of wasn't the most helpful but I have an address I can write to and hopefully claim back some pension contributions. Watcg this space...
I signed up to another survey site today and already got my first one through so much more impressed (still nothing from the first two). Still haven't ebayed. I don't know why I'm nervous about it but I do keep putting it off. Just need to get the ball rolling this weekend...MFW 2024 £27500/7500 Mortgage £129,500 Jan 22 Final payment June 38 Now £68489.08 FP May 36 Emergency Fund £20,000 100% Added to ISA 24 £8,060 Save 12k in 24 #31 £20,034.76/20,000 Debt Free 31.07.140 -
Hello, just catching up with your progress
. Well done with the reduction on your debts this month, that's very impressive. Payday for me today so I've got to do my calculations, but I know the figures are going to be awful so I seem to be sat here reading other people's diaries instead of getting on with it!
Congrats on your grocery challenge success. I've promised myself to sign up for that but haven't done it yet.
So, according to your last entry you will be sorting out your Ebay stuff now?! I don't know what it is about Ebay, I have several things to put on there but I just keep putting it off and hiding from it. I'm useless with anything technical so I'm pretty sure I will struggle getting photos on. Might get my daughter (she's 18 so knows everything!) to do it for me in exchange for a very small cut of the profits!
WOW, I've just read this post back to myself and realised I AM A PROCRASTINATORLBM Dec 2011. Aimed, but failed, to clear all unsecured debt by Feb 2019. Finally free of unsecured debt 21st May 21!

Hi Happy, I have to confess I'm a procrastinator too
I'll keep putting it off until I can be sure its perfect and since life never is guess what... I keep putting it off!
As a result, I haven't got things on ebay yet. I wanted too this weekend but it looks like my Dad is going to have to go into hospital for a bit. I want to go and see him before so it means I'd be away at a time I should be posting off any successful items. I'm putting some of my old textbooks on Amazon though as that's a bit more open ended.
I have done the ebay thing before and its not too complicated. If your Dd can show you how to select pictures on your computer it uploads automatically. The basic adverts are quite simple to do.
I think I just have a fear that I list loads of things and nothing sells. Suspect i need to start small. Even if I only sell the odd bit its money we didn't have before.MFW 2024 £27500/7500 Mortgage £129,500 Jan 22 Final payment June 38 Now £68489.08 FP May 36 Emergency Fund £20,000 100% Added to ISA 24 £8,060 Save 12k in 24 #31 £20,034.76/20,000 Debt Free 31.07.140
