Well, I've been missing in action again, haven't I?
The debt is now sub 3K which last happened in 2005. What's even better is that I should be getting some unexpected back pay from work at the end of this month. This means I am really, really close to the finish line. Being debt free is within reach, I just need to not stuff it up now.
I have two danger zones. One is relaxing off and frittering money (didn't do enough batch cooking this month- result lot of takeaways last week) the other is throwing everything at the debt to 'clear' it and then leaving myself short so I have to borrow to finish the month.
I need to be sensible and keep paying off steadily. If I don't clear it all this month I will clear it next, this is okay. If its only a small amount to pay then I can use the savings but I need to keep an emergency fund.MFW 2024 £27500/7500 Mortgage £129,500 Jan 22 Final payment June 38 Now £68489.08 FP May 36 Emergency Fund £20,000 100% Added to ISA 24 £8,060 Save 12k in 24 #31 £20,034.76/20,000 Debt Free 31.07.140 -
I'm itching for payday to arrive tomorrow
I can't wait to find out how much extra I can shift off the debt. I was debating using some of the savings to get totally debt free but I think I'll keep them safe and wait til next month for my final payment (hopefully).
I've downloaded the YNAB trial and I'm hoping I can use that to keep things on track long term. I know the temptation is going to be there to splurge once we're debt free but I'm hoping I can keep it modest.
I've been thinking a lot about longer term goals the last few months to keep me on track. I want to stary saving for a house deposit. I'd also like to increase my pension and get one started for Mr F. His car is going to need changing for something a bit more suitable for his job long term but we're going to need to negotiate on that one. He mentioned a 4x4 the other day  He did try to reasure me that he was looking at a buget model but that's still over 10k! If that's what he really wants he's just going to have to be patient :rotfl:MFW 2024 £27500/7500 Mortgage £129,500 Jan 22 Final payment June 38 Now £68489.08 FP May 36 Emergency Fund £20,000 100% Added to ISA 24 £8,060 Save 12k in 24 #31 £20,034.76/20,000 Debt Free 31.07.140 -
Fate is conspiring against me tonight. I have money in my bank account but my debit card has been pulled for a random check. I can't ring them til tomorrow so I can't pay off the CC. Its the first of the month and I don't get to edit my signature.. wahh...MFW 2024 £27500/7500 Mortgage £129,500 Jan 22 Final payment June 38 Now £68489.08 FP May 36 Emergency Fund £20,000 100% Added to ISA 24 £8,060 Save 12k in 24 #31 £20,034.76/20,000 Debt Free 31.07.140

Okay the debit card is working again, so between regular payment and the unexpected extra pay I've just paid off £2000 :j
My debt now stands at £840.72 and will be £0 by this time next month. My credit card statement arrived today. I don't know when it was last in 3 figures. I've also got the figures for car insurance renewal and NT membership which get paid next month.
I've plugged it in to YNAB and, as long as I'm careful, I can actually do this. In a little over a week I will be debt free.MFW 2024 £27500/7500 Mortgage £129,500 Jan 22 Final payment June 38 Now £68489.08 FP May 36 Emergency Fund £20,000 100% Added to ISA 24 £8,060 Save 12k in 24 #31 £20,034.76/20,000 Debt Free 31.07.140 -
