wow! you have achieved a lot in six months - well done you! :)

At this rate, you will definately have paid back £8k in 12 months :)
  • Thanks Snozberry.
I think its really esy for me to focus on how much debt remains. Its good to look back and see how much I've cleared and also think how much worse it would have been if I hadn't had my LBM and was sitll using the dreaded ccs.

Well tomorrow is 6 months since I started this diary so I thought I should take a look at how things have gone.
I have paid off over three grand of debt and this is good :j however I have not met the target I was aiming for :(. Ideally I would have paid off 1/3 of the total by now, another £1383.
I'm possibly overambitious in wanting to be debt free before 35. It may need to wait til the following Christmas but I'm going to keep trying.
I'm still in an ongoing debate with the tax office. Good news is I got a letter saying they will agree to my expenses claims :j bad news is that they've said since I underpaid tax in those years that they will take it from the ammount owing so I have a pile of revised tax calculations. However, I finished paying all of that back last year so this means I will have paid too much tax and be owed a rebate! It just seems like a delaying tactic on their part. Also no mention of the pension side of things which I was told was being looked at by the same people  I forsee more long phonecalls.... It will be great if I can get something back but it would have been fantastic to get it this month as part of my 0% deal is about to end. I may have to look at another balance transfer...
My budgeting skills have improved and we're much more in control of what we're spending now.
I have braved ebay and it has been helpful. I just need to keep plugging away as I think it is the best way for me to bring in a few extra pennies.
I've also met some really great people on here and would like to thank everyone for their support and advice:beer:
My aim for 12 months to have paid back £8000. Wish me luck!
Great idea to do that review, I did one at three months and I will do another one at six months (next week!). Speaking from my own experience, I really wouldn't worry that you haven't met your target. Personally, my targets were just 'finger in the air' jobs - I really had no idea how it would all go and what was achievable. The £3K you've paid off equates to £500 per month!!!

WELL DONE AND KEEP IT UP!
LBM Dec 2011. Aimed, but failed, to clear all unsecured debt by Feb 2019. Finally free of unsecured debt 21st May 21!

    Debt Dec 11: Unsecured £69,579 + Mortgage £59,948 = £129,527
Debt May 21: Unsecured ZERO! ZILCH! Mortgage £22,332
  • So nothing terribly exciting going on here.
I've rejigged my soa a bit to give me a little more slack. I'm going to put £200 per month into my internet saver to go towards oil and car costs. If I find things are coming in under budget and we haven't had any emergencies then I can put a lump across to the CC.
I'm also going to allow myself a monthly £50 for clothes/haircuts/books/etc. Anything not used will be saved towards christmas.
This leaves me paying back a minimum of £683 per month which gives me a debt free date of oct 2013. I'd really like to bring this forward if I can. Ebay here i come again :rotfl:

Excellent news! :) Well done :)
  • Well tomorrow will be another big DFW day. My last loan repayment will go out and I will be loan free for the first time in 4.5 years :j
So why did I ever have a loan in the first place? You get one guess.... consolidation :o
In all fairness, it did work for us for around 6 months and then I gradually stopped paying the full amount on the cc again and things crept up a bit but never to what they had been.
Then when it was paid off we needed to replace Mr !!!!!! car and didn't have the money. I worked out that if I took another loan we could keep the repayment the same and have a 2 month holiday to pay extra off the ccs. Of course the ccs slowly crept up again :(
I was lucky as I got good rates with both loans and would have spent far more on interest without them but I do feel they delayed that true LBM.
Still one debt down 2 to go!

  • I got our RAC renewal letter through recently... £135 ! Was considering cancelling and looking at different companies but then discovered I can pay for it with £30 clubcard vouchers, so I've ordered a token and I'm just waiting for it to arrive.
